I am sorry this is going to sound like a noob question I have used the activation tecniques for Vista a few times with the certification files. Is there a similar method for XP. I have xp pro on a asus mobo with modded bios that has slic 2.0 installed in the bios for asus and works fine vista. Can I just use a matching VLK for the asus or what whould be the best method for activation? I didn't see any certification files for xp just the oem key that matches?

You need to have an SLP1.0 string in your bios if you wanna use oem activation.
XP doesn't use a cert file, it uses a set of 4 oembios files.
VLK doesn't make use of oem activation at all, as that system doesn't need to get validated.
The downside is, if you're using a known pirated key, you'll have problems with updates, counterfeit pop-ups etc.
