Since Nvidia is not releasing Pascal drivers for macOS, quite a few from Hackintosh community are turning back to Windows.

But whether Windows 10 has become tolerable or I have got used to Microsoft's intrusive ways.... I cannot tell.

No, I'm staying with 10 simply because it is the newest. I never understood why a operating system sending thousands of messages of data to MS should, at this point, upset people so much. All OS's do it, maybe not to this degree, but still, MS, NSA, Google everyone does it, it's the way things are, we have to accept that, or put on Tin Foil hat, tear OS a new one trying to stop the spying, when it only takes 1 message to get back to MS with your data and all that stuff you did, the spyware programs are in vain. It may make you feel better, but you have accomplished nothing, 1 msg thru is all it takes, so it's better for me just to leave OS alone so everything works as it should. Don't get me wrong, do I think it's right, no, but realize that it is the way it is. :D:D

I agree completely. In a few years all those tin-foil hatters will look back at themselves in wonder, and amazement. How could we have been like that? All OSes will be so connected to the cloud it will be amazing! Superfast broadband in the air all around us will help facilitate. It will all be natural.

We are speaking of Windows 7 or Windows 10, nothing more, and the above is just my opinion, yes maybe there are some BSD, usually an entire operating system and not just the kernel like Linux that may be "better" to some, but as I said, between 7 & 10, I stick with 10 for now. When they come with the subscription, and they will, then I will have to find another OS. :D

What Linux distros or *BSD do this, the answer is none, they don't answer to MS :D

Ah; the way it was worded, I assumed you meant literally all operating systems did it to some extent to their related companies. But I agree that there's really no difference to this between 7, 8.1, and 10 nowadays, assuming you're installing all available updates on 7 and 8.1 as-is from MS anyway.

Are you really killing Cortana or just hiding it? I figured out a way to delete Cortana but then Windows 10 became very unstable.

as long as my webcam doesn't mysteriously start blinking while I'm porn surfing, I'm not that bothered.
One just has to swallow the fact that your surfing habits is big bucks in the cloud jungle, and MS is going
to lick us all clean :D

How are you removing it and what becomes unstable? I've removed Cortana with install_wim_tweak and didn't notice any problems. Windows Search apparently doesn't work, but I can't really vouch if it becomes unstable with the lack-of Cortana considering I just remove it as well :p

The ONLY reason I moved from 7 to 10 was to use DX12, If 7 had DX12 support I wouldnt have moved.

Win10 isnt bad at all but they could make it much better with a few changes.

    Still better than W8.

no point in going back to a outdated garbage os that's slower and tends to crash more Windows 10 is perfect for everything i need and do and so much better for work and gaming not to mention uses less resources then 7 ever has

These varying opinions are kind of amusing :p

Windows 10 just screwed me over on a computer I was deploying. Was my fault for forgetting the condition, but W10 didn't even offer a way for me to revert the option. W7 did.

Basically, if I enable MSI mode on my AHCI controller, the computer won't start (I assume the controller doesn't like MSI and won't initialize, thus, no boot drive). I did this in W7 and got a BSoD. The fix was simple enough; press F8 at start, and select last-known good settings. Not only do I have no BSoD on W10 and thus had to hard-power off my machine 3 times just to get the startup error thing to even appear (because being able to press F8 was so horrible and inefficient or something so MS decided to disable it by-default; note this is a legacy/non-UEFI machine), but the last-known good settings option wasn't even in the menu. W10 is so much better! :p

I'm re-setting up W7 now. I'm amazed at how much easier it is to set-up. No half an hour worth of disabling bs, no two totally-different control panels with varying buried settings, and control of my updates so I don't have to install every driver before connecting to the net. I've missed having control of the OS I use.

Yes I think if you install any updates, this is so, but I am not wearing a flac jacket, tin foil hat until they start taking money out of Bat.1 Bank account. :D:D

Never used the OS, the first epidemic was the EVGA PX/MSI AB bricking the Alienware and Clevo laptops LVDS panels causing edid corruption - good for nothing on the Win10, Next was Blackscreens on the INF modded GPUs (Aftermarket MXM upgraded machines, 120Hz screens) this was all on the TH1 and I didn't make a push to that, My machine needs UEFI to boot so had 8.1 or 10. 10 was so horrible with the brand of RTM but eternal update system & the above issues, Couldn't try it.

Next the TH2 came but the MSMG toolkit complications with Xbox Live and Cortana unable to delete with RS1 without breaking the startcancer search, glad that we have classic shell. Ugh 3 major patches that won't let your machine breathe in peace, the upcoming buzzword creators trash RS2..sigh when can one expect a stable OS and not to forget the cumulative destruction mechanism which even spread the cancer to the Old OSes, the ads, the stupid tablet UI panels, downgrade and lack of options everywhere, not to mention the worst DPI scaling over FHD+ in 17-18" screens all these issues points this as a HUGE downgrade, needing to tweak it so much to make it work like 7 or even 8.1, why would one want a new OS to be like OLD ? Clearly pointless for most of the PC users who like liberty..

M$ is shameless when it came to the free updates forced downgrades, they crossed the line at this point (pcworld. com/article/3153235/windows/microsoft-cmo-forced-windows-10-upgrade-was-painful-at-one-point.html ), not to mention the Zombie machines of the Home and Pro editions...LTSB is a yearly system and even the name doesn't justify it, the driver issues and all for gamers if using old one, also the Win10's WDDM2.0 the Store's Draconian grip and wanting to control the game market, Oh yeah, not to forget the retarded telemetry and auto-borking drivers ;)

M$ following the footsteps of crApple led to this state, the Windows phone died so quickly considering the HTC HD2 powered WinMo was more powerful than this gimped OS. Meh M$ has lost the direction with Gates leaving, becoming more of a mainstream garbage. (Android has the power of FOSS and prying out the big G's dirty tactics is very easy & much more improved UX is a cakewalk & Fun at XDA, Using it since v 2.0, Windows phone on the other hand is a dead horse that M$ is beating)

All this is just too much of a crapshoot to be on the bleeding edge...
NO I won't join the Eternal Beta OS, Until 2023:p

I use windows 10 from when it came out, installed it over windows 8.0, and now i'm use the insider builds to.
And all that on my main rig, never had a problem.
But i always install the latest build from slow ring, and wait even a few days to see of there are problems, after i'm sure i install that build.
My laptop installed windows 10 from windows 7, and that install is already a few years old, and use the insider builds to, but in the fast ring, not have an problem to.
The only problems where, that builds didn't show up, so i downloaded the iso's from Microsoft when they release the build for download.

I was never really bothered by Microsoft's Telemetry as other people are.

No, rather I dislike all the junk that is bundled into Windows 10 Home or Pro that you do not find in Windows 10 LTSB. Hacking it out is problematic and feels cheap. I actually do not like making my own homebrew as that too seems problematic and cheap. Both lead me playing 'whack-a-mole' with every update that is released too.

Windows 10 LTSB is the closest version for my needs, but while I could figure out how to add Store, I never could get only Edge Browser installed, without once again playing, 'whack-a-mole'. Which too could be problematic and hackish.

I gave Windows 10 nearly 2 years of trying to work for me.

In the end, I just came to accept that what I wanted out of Windows 10 wasn't going to happen and I wasn't going to be OK with that. For me, Windows 7 offers what I need and that was good enough.

there are reasons, for example since Windows 10 Build 14986 Microsoft changed something in the Windows Kernel that have broken compatibility with some old AMD, INTEL & NVIDIA videocards (videocards that were working fine in previous builds) causing random BSODs, and even these BSODs continue happening in Windows 10 Build 14997, and for me the only options here are roll back to Windows 10 Build 14971 and disable Windows Insiders Builds until Microsoft fix the bug (I hope they do), or say bye bye to Windows 10 and return to Windows 7.

but what if Microsoft does not fix it ? what about if they did it intentionally as programmed obsolescence ? in that case I'll be forced to say bye bye to Windows 10 and return to Windows 7.
