I'm completely new to Linux myself, and it seems that everybody here likes a different version of Linux. I'm a mac guy and so I'm wondering which version of Linux I should use. I'm going to put it on an old XP box just to play with it and learn about it. Thanks in advance
I love LinuxMint 11 (12 not so much yet), I like Ubuntu 11.04 (11.10 not so much yet) - the two new versions include Unity which is too new - I think they need to mature one more release.. they both have liveDVD media that you can boot from and see who they look without installing them, if you like one just click on install. easy.
I mean I have used Ubuntu Kubuntu Xubuntu Linux Mint OpenSuse Archbang Crunchbang and Arch. Out of all those Ubuntu is def the easiest any flavor of it. If you look into Arch it is bleeding edge but for more of a advanced user. Crunchbang/Archbang use Openbox one of my favorite really fast but a lot of work. I honestly would say Ubuntu or Linux Mint which is based of Ubuntu very easy to find files to download
My favourite is Zorin OS (after win7). Here is my dualmonitor / dualsystem setup: On the left monitor: Zorin OS in fullscreen VBox, on the right monitor: you know
I normally use windows but keep on trying linux with Unetbootin without installing. After trying a lot of distros my favourite will be ubuntu. It has good interface and very easy to work with.
My favourite and my normally SO, is Debian Wheezy with gnome-shell from unstable repositories! Also supports (LCD, VGA and HDMI). But now i create a partitio to Test Windows8.. But.. If I have to install some distro of linux i always try Debian.. It's so strong
I like ubuntu. It is the best os for hosting a website, which is easy to programme and use.
i liked ubuntu 9 but not their next release until the current that i use with a hp touchsmart ; linux mint cinmon 13 is very good and they solved the menu question for gnome3 , linux only misses drivers
