Bypass ESU Blue

Hi,

I have managed to achieve something better using a modded SSU. Last month's script had a bug, that is now fixed. And be aware of the quirks.

No warranties reserved, expressed, implied, or otherwise. Do not try this on a production system. It is merely a proof-of-concept and is work-in-progress.

I was able to install the CU from the update.mum ( dism.exe /online /norestart /add-package /packagepath:update.mum /ignorecheck ) by patching the individual package_for MUMs beforehand with the attached node.js script.

I believe this modding script will also work with the the IE CU since it is more simple, I leave this to the reader's description.

I still have to test more, but this is progress... My two cents. Thank you.

Installed on top of 2025-06. Bluetooth may work (only tested discoverability of devices).

Once I have something ready in easy-to-follow steps. I'll post them here along with all the tools/instructions.

The update can be uninstalled, even after returning to the original SSU (so long as BypassESU is installed). I'll type more notes in the coming days as I find them. Thank you.

Bad news! Defender borked, luckily it is just a Virtual Machine that I can revert the snapshot.

I will have to blacklist problematic Windows components (to be defined, like those that cause conflicts with Defender) to prevent incompatible Server versions from being installed on the Client.

Be aware the attached modMum has bugs that break Defender, and other Windows components! If you want to help me fix them, my PMs are open.

Unfortunately for Win8.0, in addition to the LCU, the NET 480 LCU, and the SSU, the NET 350 LCU also needs modification since 2025.10 LCU.
For Win8.1, Only the LCU needs modification.

Refer to the attatchments for more info. (Open them in XML Editor like VSCode, so as to enable syntax coloring.)

 

Dang it, so they could probably also remove Client/Embedded compatibility for NET Framework on NT6.3 with upcoming releases then...

Because manifests since 2025-07 are broken for Client installs and all sorts of hacks are needed. I haven't validated any workarounds, so I still rock 2025-06 on my production systems even though the caveats: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/posts/1889546

I check if turned off secureboot let's me on update windows 8.1 pro to newest esu from October 2025 as spoof Server 2012 R2. Of course before I install newest SSU. I hope will success. If not, then I am sure activate vbs on host make that problems. Or I don't know.

A question, with your edits on Windows 8.1, does defender still work?

Do you mind maybe uploading the modified MUMs of KB5066873 for it to be easy for me to test and check on an English VM?

I am interested in making an automated script that is able to mod the update to work on any language.

It weird. I runned wsus proxy windows 8.1, nothing found. Only removed wsus totally and WU see updates on server 2012 R2. Only ask if October are fixed and will normally boot windows 8.1 or black screen boot ?

 

Any plan to make that bypass esu blue like was with windows 7 and server 2008 r2 ? For better work with WU. After new Year Windows 8.1 still be updated as server 2012 r2.

 

So after ESUs October 2025 stay on that windows logo and can't go nowhere.

Not that. I made test with newest patches. It took SSU from October and tried newest updates because I thought that error from July is fixed finally. But i see seriously Windows 8.1 is killed.
