From KB5020000. This is impossible to miss and is directly below the other quote that everyone is talking about. Why is no one talking about this? It is the far more scary notice of the two. KB5020019 (November 2022 rollup for Server 2008) does not have this notice. Are we meant to believe that Microsoft is ditching 7 but keeping NT 6.0? That would be utterly bizarre, but that is nothing new for Microsoft. It would be absurd if Vista - which I love dearly but is simply inferior to 7 for everything except DRM-infected audio - is effectively more secure than 7 in 3 years because of receiving additional ESU while 7 does not.
De Rossi: The KB5020000 Security Monthly Quality Rollup was detected and installed fine in all of my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit desktops. It also updated Internet Explorer 11 (which I still use in a few sites) to 11.0.285
This would be consistent with Server 2008's ESU program, but the notice on KB5020000 states: "Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1" Perhaps, because the scenario of Server 2008 receiving more ESU while Vista, 7, and 2008 R2 are all canned is so ridiculous, Microsoft simply forgot to put a similar notice on the Server 2008 KBs. I don't like the implications of either theory, though.
That's how I felt about Win XP. I only even moved to 7 because I needed tighter integration with the now native x64 platforms and emerging GPU acceleration, not to mention better hardware compatibility. Now that everything finally works (less than 1 BSOD every few months under rare circumstances) I'm NEVER moving to the "newer" windows versions that made every good thing bad. Breathe while you can on NT6.1 (W7)... now's the time to start learning how to make use of Linux.
Well, it's not on windows update here I downloaded it manually but didn't install it, waiting for more feedback.
All updates installed automatically including kbKB5020000. Should i have not installed this and if not why?
it's sort of a "glitch" on Microsoft's end (such ms update catalog [MUC] searches don't seem very "smart" lately) not sure if & when MS will fix it
