Microsoft Security Essentials reached end of service on January 14, 2020 and is no longer available as a download. Microsoft will continue to release signature updates (including engine) to service systems currently running Microsoft Security Essentials untill 2023.
Why is Microsoft Security Essentials no longer available?
Windows 7 is no longer supported and availability of new installations of Microsoft Security Essentials has ended. We recommend all customers move to Windows 10 and Windows Defender Antivirus for our best security option.
Will Microsoft Security Essentials running on my system continue to run?
Yes, we will continue to provide signature updates for Microsoft Security Essentials until 2023.

Yes, but I will be on the lookout from the Devs of this forum for a means to use the updates from Server '08 and/or POSReady, on Windows 7.

The Microsoft Security Essentials 4.10.209.0 offline installer file can still be downloaded from Microsoft and installed in Windows 7.
Once it is installed and you have a working internet connection, you can still update its definition files on a daily basis.

Can you provide some kind of link where Mozilla states that? Because I have never heard that before.

  6. I doubt that end of POSReady 7 support has any meaningful impact on Firefox suport for Windows 7.
POSReady systems are not intended for direct use by end users.
If Firefox will drop support for 7, they will do that with EOL of some of their ESR versions as they have done with Windows XP.

As of 01/26/2023 I continue to receive M$ update notices automatically through Windows Updates. Today I received the update below. They continue to install without problems or alerts. I am running FF 109.0. No alerts or warnings attached. My system is Acer Aspire 5733Z-4851 Win 7 HOME Premium.

My Ungoogled chrome browser has a message that further updates have stopped unless I go to Win10 or ZORIN (Ubuntu/Linux). The folks ungoogling Google Chrome have found a way around that. Mine updated today to 109.0.5414.120 Ungoogled-chromium (64 bit).

All of my other security software & general software continue to function & update properly. When my mainstream software stops supporting Win7 I will turn to ZORIN Pro full time. And I will continue to return here for updates from all of you & myself.

Thanks to the incredible folks who started & supported this resistance to M$ greed & change. Have been computing since CPM & serial tape storage. Wrote my first programs on a mini-mainframe using COBOL & punch cards. ;>) It has been a good ride so far. Go with God my friends.

One more try, none of those updates are ESU restricted nor related.

They are not even considered updates.

Just wondering if anyone's mentioned 0patch.com yet? 2 yr more patches including Edge browser. Price seems reasonable.

Agreed. I greatly appreciate all of your & the team's ESU efforts. Many here are expressing worries of MU for Win7 being completely shut down. My post was to demonstrate MU is still working & exactly how, for now. As for ESU activity I figure Feb/Mar 2023 will be more informative. For now, MU still works, even if for nothing else beyond security signature updates.

Thanks again & Go with God.

Ty. But just wondering what all the fuss is about. For a decent price 7 is covered for 2 more years. Im using it and works fine. After that we are on our own. If you don’t wanna pay then use 10.

This thread should close with 0patch.com

Good lord, what drugs are you on? Absolutely not. This thread is about bypassing the licensing requirements for obtaining ESU updates, as well as associated relevant topics, including availability of Year 4 and onwards of ESU and stopgaps like 0patch. Put up some ironclad evidence that not a single person on this planet see value in those topics before you suggest that this thread should be killed. You do not get to extinguish that information, shut down the discussion of that topic, and censor future research of that topic just because you personally would rather use 0patch.

Too many people on forums do not understand what a forum is... Forum threads do not get closed because a random John Doe comes in and tells everyone "party's over, go home, I think your topic is stupid". Forum threads are only closed when not a single person on the planet is left who is participating in the discussion. There are thousands of people who check this thread regularly. The world doesn't revolve around you.
