What is the difference between them that makes ESU more sophisticated?

POS updates will not work until 2023. ESU updates will. The logic required to get ESU updates is more complicated than getting worthless POS updates.

There is something that apparently has not been stressed enough. That is:
This will not allow your computer to download Extended Support Updates, only install them.

This tool tricks TrustedInstaller (the service that actually installs updates) into installing the ES updates on a non-eligible computer. Nothing else. (for now)

There is no way Windows Update will download those updates by itself in the first place.
You will need another hook that'll make Windows Update download them. (or other ways, but I can't promise to support them)

We'll make that when needed, so we don't accidentally make something that may not even work.
Stay tuned. We'll wait until the ES updates release and see how it'll work.

I need the exact patch opposite : shortens W7 lifespan.
Indeed this is quite calm at work before christmas : i'd enjoy removing ALL 7 before jan/14... :biggrin5:

Am on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 for reference.

Installed the patch successfully and installed KB4528069 without incident

Later on I manually ran Windows Update and got hung up on "Checking for updates..." but let it go for at least 30 minutes. Thought maybe I needed to do a fresh SoftwareDistribution folder so I took that step, but still could not get past the "checking."

Then I removed the patch and voila, Windows Update was able to finish checking pretty quickly and show me available updates.

Is this a known and expected problem with the patch? I will leave it removed since it isn't necessary until January 2020 when Windows Update will be useless anyway.

    Thanks!
