First of all, patch to 2008 R2 and not Embedded. Secondly, get the latest SSU KB5056456 for Server 2008 R2.
Hello, Just tested on my last windows 7 updated image done in December 2022. So I started with the following: - Windows 7 Enterprise x86 updated on December 2022 - Windows 7 Enterprise x64 updated on December 2022 Back in December 2022 the updated image was created using the following: - Windows Hotfix Downloader to download all the KB* updates for windows 7 - abbodi1406 WHD-W7UI taken from his official GitHub repository - some things taken from sordum (to kill windows defender / windows update since I prefer manually update of windows and use a different AV solution for windows) Few hours ago I just take the images created back in December 2022 and follow the steps: 1. Install the Wwindows 7 x86 / x86 in VmWare workstation 2. Use the BypassESU-v13f to install the ESU Supressor first 3. Reboot the virtual machines 4. Run again the BypassESU-v13f to install the NET Framework ESU 5. Reboot the virtual machines 6. Use Windows Hotfix Downloader to download all the new KB* released for Windows 7 x86 / x84 7. Use the latest WHD-W7UI to install all the updates with the following config: OnlineLimit =75 ESUpdates =YES LDRbranch =YES IE11 =YES RDP =YES Hotfix =YES Features =YES WAT =YES WMF =YES Windows10 =NO ADLDS =YES RSAT =YES 8. Reboot the Virtual machines 9. Run the Net framework optimization "ngen.exe executeQueuedItems" 10. Use Dism++ to cleanup the temporary files of the live installation done on the virtual machines 11. Enable the adminstrator account 12. Reboot the virtual machines and login with the built in Admistrator account 13. Delete the folders of the other account creted by windows setup 14. Run sysprep to prepare the image for capture 15. Boot using WinPE 24H2 and run dism to capture the image 16. Edit the captured install.wim and set edition = Enterprise 17. Use WHD7-UI to install again ESU updates on boot.wim and winre.wim 18. Build a new ISO file with updated install.wim and boot.wim 19. Install again windows 7 in virtual machines using the updates iso files created. With the steps above I have no issue at booting from updated media, no errors logged in setuperr.log so I guess that it supposed to work on physical machine. Doing the same steps without BypassESU-v13f did not work and throw an unsupported cpu bsod for x64 version of windows 7. For x86 it worked fine without using BypassESU-v13f but I used it just to be sure. From what I noticed from Windows Hotfix Downloader windows 7 x86 windows updates stopped for more than 1 year ago so ESU updates are release only for x64 version. I hope that this information is helpful for others who want to create an updated windows 7 install media.
Hey all! Just tried to run the command script, all reccomended updates installed on top of the a fully updated system, but the command window instantly closes when opening as admin... Anything I'm missing?
Hi, This is a problem when a path contains strange characters, such as parentheses. My two cents. Thank you.
Moin @ All! My October 2025 ESUpdate experience for Windows 7 Pro / Enterprise SP1 x64 systems: "Licensing method": KB4528069 & "new" BypassESU-v13f "Installing method": Manual download and installation via Microsoft®Update-Catalog KB5066141 (Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 4.8 for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64) -> succesfully installed KB5066150 (Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64) -> succesfully installed KB5066840 (Cumulative Security Update for IE 11 for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64) -> succesfully installed KB5066876 (Security Only Quality Update for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64) -> succesfully installed The current Security Intelligence Update was downloaded and installed by the auto-update function of MSE. @ abbodi1406: Great job & thx for your support!
Thank you once again Sinclair ZX81 for your clear and easy to follow post. I went to Ghacks earlier today, but they had changed their usual way of listing the updates...I couldn't find specific details for Server 2008 R2 updates.
Add adric to the list with Sinclair ZX81to thank for their monthly links & reports. Saves me time when I don't have to do my own search of the M$ catalog for what I need. My WU is still alerting me when these updates are available. I still download & update manually. I always check for a more recent SSU update. Only auto updates are for my MSE. 3 months left & counting? And, of course, always, thank you @ abbodi1406. And all who have made this long ride a little easier with your chat & contributions.
Good morning everyone, a while ago I installed "BypassESU-v12" on "W7 x64 Ultimate" and then I was able to install the updates below: KB5010798 - Windows 7 OOB - 01/17/2022 KB5022338 - Windows 7 Monthly Rollup - 01/10/2023 KB5020861 - .Net - 12/13/2022 KB5013637 - .Net - 05/10/2022 KB5018516 - .Net - 10/11/2022 KB5020879 - .Net - 12/13/2022 Now to get the latest updates, I must reinstall "BypassESU-v12" and then install up to the latest update that the patch Does V12 support installing V13 or can I install v13 and try to install the latest Monthly Rollup? #
You need to install v13 and can do so over v12. When you do select Windows Server 2008 R2 (if you use 64-bit version of Windows 7). If you use 32-bit version of Windows 7 you need to select embedded 7 category but that only takes you to October 2024 when updates for that OS ended. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...dates-eligibility.80606/page-410#post-1860120
Hi everyone, sorry for the OT post - I have two machines running on a older update level and just wanted to ask before I accidentally break something - quick question to the group: Are the LCUs for the 2008 R2 Server still working fine on Windows 7 or have there been any rollups in recent months that caused issues? Thanks so much in advance for any feedback! Cheers, Martin
