I am also from Melbourne Australia. I have same problem with recent picture tearing and blocking. It's frustratingly inconsistent. Occurs with Win8.1 Pro system with USB tuners. Occurs on current model Intel NUC but is very infrequent with an older Shuttle v3. Both systems have SSDs. Have not identified a pattern yet. I don't think it's TV signal related (too much or too little or FM interference) because I've done a lot of work with my antenna, cabling, F connectors, etc. I'm beginning to suspect video drivers or CPU (i3) that can't deal with data rates. I'd like to communicate separately.
I'm not sure why no one else has commented on this or if I somehow got the update early, but "2017-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4025342) OS Build 15063.483" will break media center. If you try to watch any channel it will lag for 3 seconds then tell you "The PlayReady update was incomplete." If you have shows set to record on a schedule you will get a Tuner Error notification at the scheduled time. The last show my PC recorded was 7/10/2017 at 11PM. On 7/11/2017 at 3AM the update was installed. Nothings worked since. The good news is that in the Settings --> Updates --> Advanced options they added a new Windows Update branch "Current Branch for Business" and give you options to defer feature updates for up to 365 days and security updates for up to 30 days. So if this came in an earlier update and those options are already present, here's a heads up to configure those settings. So far I've tried reinstalling drivers/etc. but have not had any luck Also the IPs that are listed everywhere for data.tvdownload.microsoft.com are bad. I've tried: Code: 2.16.216.176 cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com #Works #72.246.56.59 cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com #Works 65.55.186.113 data.tvdownload.microsoft.com #Bad #65.55.186.115 data.tvdownload.microsoft.com #Bad #65.55.5.170 data.tvdownload.microsoft.com #Bad #65.55.5.173 data.tvdownload.microsoft.com #Bad UPDATE: So TimeWarner apparently converted to fully encrypted digital cable the same day my computer updated. These assholes even encrypted the basic channels. I get better service with an Antenna. Now I have to get a cablecard which has basically no support anymore.
For me it is not true. I'm using it right now with OTA tuner DVB-T (italy) (by Avermedia) and Windows 10.0.15063.483. Try to reinstall MCE.
Props for the effort to make mce work, i downloaded and installed on server 2012 R2, no issues at all, using cccp codec playback is flawless. I have not tried to add a tv card yet, but will at some point, gonna try and code an app for this, have wanted to do it for a long time !! tnx
Anyone notice any sleep problems after the last windows 10 update? Computer sleeps fine in desktop but wont when WMC 8.7 is running. 1703. 1563.483
i thought i was the only one. all of my computers are doing it. i never tried uninstalling and reinstalling WMC. i'm using 8.8.1
I no longer have to worry about updates killing WMC This is what I have done 1) Bought a Media PC Slim case (desktop) 2) Installed windows LTSB 2015(Deactivated windows update service) 3) No Microsoft Office etc.....I do not treat is as a PC, only as a dedicated Media box) 4) Months now, no problems whatsoever. Sure the OS is a bit stale, but no web browsing or printing just media.
Great job Jeff. That is the way a HTPC should be....My Win7 hasn't had an update since 2012. Win10 updates were disabled just before Anniversary was released. Disconnect the keyboard and RDP or Remote Desktop for a checkup or adjustment. Lock the other users in the house out of the settings, and it should last forever. Recording drive gets hit hard, that is usually the first to go. Boot drive no wear and tear.
My only concern is when Microsoft discontinues its channel guide services when Windows 8 (Last official rollout of WMC) reaches end of life. Then what?
Yes yes and yes. $25 a year for a Schedules Direct subscription and EPG123 (free) and you are set. And the guide data, images, etc. are SOOOOOO much better than the crap from Micro$oft/Rovi.
I've gone back to windows 8.1 as my main WMC. It's sleepy again. I agree that EPG123 is the way forward.
I successfully installed and used Windows Media Center in the past and since the Creator Update, I can't make it work. It installs but won't start, ehome opens in task manager and then closes after a few second. Is there some new install pack or what ?
Delete the TWO Ehome folders and uninstall with V8.8.1 Then install V8.8.1 If that doesnt work....Start reading about Here Disable the Update Service.... V8.8.1 is the most recent and is available on Page 1
I upgraded a vm to windows 10 creator update. I installed again wmc with successs but when I run the app it starts and it flashes continuously. Has anyone found any solution to this?
Real quick question, Can two CableCards work on the same PC? I already have a Ceton pcie and want to test a Ceton USB without disconnecting pcie version. Thanks, Jeff
I assume LTSB 2015 as it is pre-anniversary update which broke some media center functionality, correct? I ask because I am about to build out a new HTPC and can go with LTSB 2015 or LTSB 2016. Thanks!
