Didn't notice this when you posted it a long time ago but yes I've been sorely missing that feature, no clue why they removed it and I was not able to find any info on it after a lot of searching. What I've done since is if I don't recognize the app or process, I'll deny it, then go into the application rules and traffic log to get more info. Luckily I do usually recognize the app and/or just did something that I expected to generate new network traffic. But there are those occasional random ones that you want to validate before allowing. Hope this comes back some day.
Hello. Could I please have the Japanese version of SEP 14.4 ? If possible, I would also appreciate a Korean version as well.
14.4 (the digitally signed generic installer posted by @LostED - welcome back) has brought back the "Detail" button on both Windows 10 and 11 for me. Very happy about that. If you are not seeing the popups when using a VPN, that is to be expected. SEP only sees the tunnel, so once you approve that, it won't prompt you for anything inside the tunnel (unless SEP can somehow bind itself to the tunnel interface prior to the encryption happening, I'm not sure if it is able to do that, and if so, which VPNs it would support). The whole point of a VPN is to hide your traffic, including from firewalls you may have outside of the tunnel, you need to rely on the firewall provided by the VPN at that point.
Yeah it disappeared in RU9. I had not installed 14.4 when I made that comment, very happy to see that the button is back on both Win 10 and 11 with that version now that I've upgraded.
Actually that behavor is definately NOT 'as expected'. I have the setting and VPN since the beginning of Windows 7 and all SEP versions up to 14.4 and the "ASK" always for apps... does ALWAYS work. That is why I was reliant on this feature. It applies to all .... to aks prior allowing internet access, either once or permanently. And this is now PARTLY gone with Windows 10 and any SEP version! At least for me and different installation of Win10. I found that either on or off VPN, SEP only asks once in a blue moon!!! Browsers, File Zilla and others like Adobe, etc. do will NOT be aked by SEP anymore! So I would really like to solve this and if there is anybody here that uses Windows 10 or even 11 and has SEP setting ASK prior any internet connection setup and that is working 100% for ALL and every app that wants to go online, please let me know. So far I think that it is not working 100% for anybody and most perhaps do not have that setting ON, so it goes unnoticed... Just my thinking. So far at least, I have to look into a different firewall that blocks all until allowed and woks 100%. Best
With VPN it heavily depends how the VPN is implemented and if Symantec is able to bind to it. If it does not work when off VPN you have some other issue going on. Some VPNs alter the network stack in windows so even when they're disabled, they still bypass firewall. This seems to be especially true with the VPNs that have their own firewall that is set to "always on" to prevent leakage. Or your windows install could just be messed up (perhaps by the VPN software, perhaps unrelated). I'm running 14.4 on windows 10 and 11, I even totally cleared out my applications and let it re-ask and every one asked and they all have the "details" button. I don't have anything still running 7 to check on that but 7 is obviously long since end of support so I wouldn't expect things to work perfectly on it regardless. That would be me. Since the constant seems to be that you have a VPN installed on all these tests, my guess is that's what is interfering.
Hi - Is anyone able to provide SEPM (Manager version) for 14.4 (14.4.387.0000) full install Simplified Chinese please? Thank you in advance PS:Sorry, I forgot to switch to English earlier.
Because now nobody provides version 14.4 in all languages, or only version 14.3 was released in several languages and this last one is limited.
I'm curious to this as well. I am assuming version 16 it's totally different and nothing like previous versions.
@drinkingbird Well, you are saying that you have currently Windows 10 and Symantec 14.4 and the option ASK is ON. And you made the test that you had deleted all firewall settings and then started again with ASK and EVERY single .exe app was popping up again and indeed ASKED ??? And you have an VPN on or not when this happens? Because for me, I suspected also my VPN, BUT when I use the SAME VPN and the SAME SEP version with WIndows 7 , then all works well !!! Only this behavior happens with Win10.
I found the SEP for Mac 14.3 RU9 and would like to upload it. Can anyone provide some place so I can contribute? I also need the ARM version, if anyone could help...
There are a number of cloud services where you can upload your files for free & share the link here. Google Drive, Proton, Mega, etc. Yes, there are different limitations with each one. Internet Archives also seems good. Thanks. EDIT : Some of your interests listed there at that page : https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/discussion-symantec-endpoint-protection.51100/page-88
I thought you guys would already have some cloud place ready to put my files.. I'm kinda lazy to set up one. The arm version on the link you gave is not the latest.
