apart from the UEFI boot mess we're discussing here, v1466 also breaks the VPN connections if anyone noticed.

Anyone using the v1499 RP, can confirm whether these issues are fixed or not?

Let's hope it, the current RP updates were already made before the current public ones, who caused the uefi problems, were released.

I am trying to install en-us_windows_10_consumer_editions_version_21h2_updated_dec_2021_x64_dvd_a468b4ce.iso onto a Lenovo Yoga 14s with 1x 11th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 Processor(Core i7-1165G7). Secure boot is off, so I can run the installation from the USB storage.

I am sure there is nothing wrong with the ISO, but somehow it cannot find a drive or a device driver.

Is there something in BIOS is need to change for the hardware to accept the Windows installation ?

With Macrium Reflect I managed to extract the hardware specific drivers, but when I add those to the ISO with DISM I face the same issue when booting and wanting to install Windows. So.. this leave me with hardware I cannot install Windows on, what is a first timer for me, haha.

All the other Lenovo boxes would play super nice with Linux and Windows, this Yoga 14s is tricky.

How did you create the bootable USB and did you change anything on the ISO in addition to the driver integration (in boot.wim or install.wim or both)?

I used Rufus. Popped the untouched ISO in there and wrote it to the 8GB USB storage. That did not work. I tried this with several other versions of untouched ISOs. Nada. Always the same error, cannot find the drive.

    Then I followed this guide.
    Code:
    docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/add-and-remove-drivers-to-an-offline-windows-image?view=windows-10.
Extracted the ISO to a folder. Mounted the install.wim, added the drivers, commit and unmount. Then I was left with a changed install.wim in the folder where I extracted the ISO to. Finally I used ImgBurn to make an ISO of that again. And then Rufus where I loaded the ISO to make the bootable USB storage. Even though the drivers were added it did not work.

Where I got the drivers from ?

I let the default setup run with the preinstalled image that comes with the box. Installed Macrium Reflect, created a Rescue media, in the Advanced view of that one can add additional drivers specific to the hardware on the given host, they were all there, so I added them to the Rescue media. After this I re-set the box to factory default with the Lenovo One Recovery button, some "fancy" little button hidden away that let's you restore the box to how it came from the manufacturer. (But of course if I wipe the drive with i.e. GParted this will not work any more, unless they started hard coding pre-installed Win versions on some piece of hardware.) Regardless, this is the way I got the drivers. So when working with DISM I just used that Drivers folder and it did indeed add all those drivers to the mount. Before, when using the default Rescue media, it had the same error, could not find the drive. But once those drivers were added I could boot from the Rescue media and create a backup. What I wonder though is why when I add these drivers to the ISO it still does not work.

Thank you I will do that and see if that works. Thank you.

I found out something. When the window to load a driver comes up and I point it to the folder where all the drivers are, you HAVE to go directly into EACH folder, it will NOT SCAN the subfolders. I was under the impression that when there is a button with label "Rescan" on it, it means that I can just point it to the USB Storage and it will "scan" for the right driver. Regardless, when I go to the correct folder the RAID driver is being installed and I can see all the drives and install Windows.

Do you know why it only shows "Drive 2" and no other drive ? There is 1 physical SSD in there and it must be using RAID since that is always on in BIOS. Is that taking up space on the hard drive ? Can I turn that off ? And if I wipe the entire drive clean with GParted will this RAID thing still be an issue ?

I just like to slap clean Windows on a clean drive, really, thank you.

This is a good question because 19041 has reached its end of support and only updates to 19041.1415. So one has to update twice when doing a clean install (update, add the ep then update again) to get the latest updates

A good question which has already an answer on the previous message.

    Google for 21h1 / 21h2 enablement packages

I know about 21h1 / 21h2 enablement packages. you cannot add 21h2 ep on a 19041. you have to update first

just adding the enablement package offline does not work. as I said, after installing, you still have to update, add the ep then update again

The answer "Servicing stack and cumulative updates" wasn't complete. Which ssu and cu?

Anyways I am testing right now to find the solution offline. Adding ssu and cu to update a 19041.1 so when you do a clean install it updates once to the latest cu

Look at uup script from uupdump it produces the latest iso starting from 19041.1 so it is possible.

That said creating updated ISOs of recent windows is absolutely pointless in 98% of cases.

You lost me. I do not have a clue what you are talking about.
I was only trying to find a solution to servicing an offline 19041.1 image so when installed you don't have to update twice to get the latest cu
