never tested this, but beta CUs shouldn't be offered 100% at this moment we don't have the latest EP anyway so it's better to wait a few weeks (I suspect it will be released as Preview update on Sep 26)
that utility is saying im not impacted even though they are enabled so im gonna leave them on This 64-bit version of Windows has been updated for full awareness of both the Spectre and the Meltdown vulnerabilities. If the system's hardware (see below) has also been updated, this system will not be vulnerable to these attacks. This system's hardware has been updated with new features required to allow its operating system to protect against the Spectre vulnerabilities and/or to minimize their impact upon the system's performance. (Protection from the Meltdown vulnerability does not require BIOS or processor updates.) This system's Intel processor provides high-performance protection from the Meltdown vulnerability. A properly updated operating system will be able to provide protection without significant system slowdown. This system's Intel processor provides high-performance protection from the Meltdown vulnerability and this version of Windows is taking full advantage of those features to offer that protection without overly severe performance penalties.
I felt like "skipping the line" today and doing that (installing the EP manually). But since these "moment updates" started, WU stopped working when the OS wasn't insider-enrolled. I recently sorted through the skeleton of an old mining rig that had an old EP installed. I booted it up and even though it was on an older moment than the current GAC channel, since the main build number was bumped up, WU didn't download any CU or EP. It was a few days ago and it was on something like *12.836. So I guess WU will stop working for this moment update as well if the build number won't be bumped up by the GAC EP similarly to the beta EP.

I don't wish to be on any but the GAC channel. I just used to jump ahead a little from time to time. But I guess that's no longer an option.
I also prefer to stay on the General Availability channel. After manually installing an EP for the next version, Windows Update has always quit working for me. So I would just manually install SSUs and LCUs until the next version of Windows was officially released. At that time, Windows Update would start working again!
Today is the PT for this month, any news about 23H2 releasing today or next week during the Surface event?
but MSFT calls that (4th week) update as Release Preview, not public preview, or I am missing something here in this?
The 4. week update ist just called "Preview", because it is a preview for the next cumulative update and it is optional. It will be released in the retail and release preview channel. However, it is usually released as a pre-release version in the release preview channel, before the final version of the update is released.
