He disabled updates with group policy but the update notification icon still shows up. Typical Windows 10 BS where you have to hack it to make it do what you want.
Some people find it bothersome, just like you find bothersome someone asking, how to get rid of it. Either way, that icon shows up, when checking for updates is allowed, GPO will not do. I was surprised to see it, when I was checking out something on an unrestricted windows.
Yes, but you can't turn that notification off without hacking it in some way. I'll use windows 7 as an example. If you set updates to manual, it meant just that. It wouldn't bother you anymore and you could check for updates when you're ready, as it should be. Sure, 7's action center would notify you that windows update was turned off, but you could disable that notification too. I understand the need for people who know nothing about computers to get force-fed updates, but I am not one of those people. I will fight to the death for my right to update Windows 10 whenever I'm ready to, not when windows thinks I should. tldr; To Windows 10 with its forced update bs and its notifications, this is a war and I intend to win, and so far I am. I fart in Satya Nadella's general direction.
