I doesn’t support Vista officially, but install.wim support CleanUpdate backup, Components removal (be carefull and test on by one components), Rebuild drivers cache and registry integration works. Best on Live or Syspreped image
@CaptainSpeleo I tested my root certificates on Vista and it worked, I was able to install 2022-01 LCU from WU! Only thing that needs to be manually installed now is IE LCU.
ExtremeGrief: I've got 2 SSD's in my test laptop, so I plan to do another clean install and update of Windows Vista SP2 64-bit and use your Root Certificate. Hopefully the end result will be successful with your RC and with the KB4575904 ESU LPP. The last CU for IE9 was in October 2021, which changed it to version 9.0.270. I'm waiting for the next CU for IE9 to arrive so it can be installed with the script in step #18. (Note: The script will need to be modified first to reflect the new KB number)
In my install I didn't install ESU prep package because it said not applicable, but I still saw the updates. Weird.
ExtremeGrief: I'm currently doing another clean install and update and have used your Root Certificate update. I'm currently at "checking for updates" for Windows Vista in step #21 of the guide. After I'm completely done, I'll advise what the final outcome was. Hopefully, all will go well like it did 2 days ago.
Both of the clean installs and updating that I've done in the last days both went fine. The Root Certificate update from HHo2016 was used the first time, and the Root Certificate from ExtremeGrief was used the second time. Windows Update displayed and installed 173 important updates for Windows Vista SP2 64-bit and 59 important updates for Windows Server 2008 64-bit. The updates for Vista brought it up to date to April 2017, and the updates for Server 2008 brought it up to date to January 2022. KB4575904 ESU Licensing Preparation Package is working again without breaking Windows Update and generating an error code message.
I was feeling bored on Sunday so I thought I would have another go at installing the updates which had previously failed: KB5008271, KB5008274 and KB5009627. I picked the SOQU downloads and bingo! they all installed without glitch one by one. Come the Feb Patch Tuesday, I´ll try the SMQR first and see what happens. Clearly Webroot SA was interfering but that was strange as it is OK in both XP Pro x32 and x64. Apart from network and firewall tweaks, all I´m using now is Zemana AM. Is there any other AV still working in Vista now that Bitdefender Free has been cancelled?
Yg#n1wP: My last 2 clean installs and updates of Windows Vista SP2 64-bit have been done with new Root Certificate updates. I don't know if it's a contributing factor or just a fluke, but the KB4575904 ESU LPP update is working properly again and not breaking Windows Update. Windows Update is now detecting and installing the current SMQR updates. I no longer need or use the SOQU updates and the mass install script. I don't use any of the third-party apps that you mentioned, so I can't comment on them.
I tried it 4 hours ago and I got an error message if 2021-10 SSU + LPP are installed at the same time.
This is my order of install. A restart is done after each one is installed, whether it is needed or not.
Restart after each? So 16 restarts? I install Certs, .NETs, 2 IE9 prereqs, 4 long scan fix, SHA2 Update KB4474419, Latest LPP and SSU. Then reboot and install IE9 + WU Agent Reboot and install IE9 LCU and VISTASHA2WUC Then reboot and use WU.
I tried on sunday and KB4575904 ESU LPP still breaks the WU for me. Also I didn't got any SMQR detected (you mean the SMQR for windows right? Anyone else got this one detected? Also does anyone know what is this Out of band update that came this month? It was served for both WS2008 and Seven.
