yes, I did install sp2 and it was successful. At first I immediately retried. No success. Afterwards I restarted and tried once more. Same result. Then I reinstalled the update for the Windows Update Agent and tried again. Still the same problem.
I don't know what else to advise you to remedy the problem, other than to start over from the very beginning.
no problem. I will try a restore point. With that not working, I could maybe try to force a reinstall of the original WUA?
@Boris Livon I got that failure once, i could`t repair it. So my advice is to start from scratch. Do a fresh install of VISTA SP2, install the prequisites, reboot and start "install_WUC.cmd" again.
Start from scratch, as in: reinstall Windows Vista service pack 1, then install sp2, then the rest? Okay, that’s a bummer.
I managed to try server 2008 esu bypass on server 2008 but allow me to install updates manually. windows update give me error did i do something wrong?
There is a new Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2008 64-bit for December 2022. As soon as it is tested, I will update step #34 of the guide to reflect the new change. Note: There is also a Security And Quality Rollup for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2.
Good news. After using system restore to return to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and then reinstalling Service Pack 2 and all necessary files, I was able to successfully execute ‘install_WUC.cmd’ and the patch also (I chose number 1). But as Windows Update was still searching for updates when I left, I can’t tell you yet if the process in its totality was a victory. Update: just now I received a telephone call informing me that Windows Update found 198 updates.
Hello everybody! It has been a while! 32bit versions of Vista are supported just fine by abbodi's tool. I have done several installs myself back when I was testing it. The only difference is that the option 3 is not working (never worked for me anyway) on 32bit systems due to RAM issues probably. Choices 1 and 2 work fine. By the way my VMs that I installed back in February 2022 still detect MCUs just fine with the exception of Ultimate x64. If anyone wants to have a look at this let me know. Happy new year!
xrononautis: The last time that I started from scratch and did a clean install of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit was on December 04, 2022. The entire update process afterwards takes quite awhile, so I do not plan to do it again until February 14, 2023 - the next "patch Tuesday" after today. The Vista_SHA2_WUC tool works fine, but Windows Update does not detect and install the current SMQR update, so I have to obtain and manually install it. I will need to do it again after today's "patch Tuesday" SMQR update is released.
The guide in the original post has been updated to reflect a change to step #34: January 2023 SMQR update (KB5022340) for Windows Server 2008 64-bit
You might end up doing a fresh install sooner *I might am into something* Today I did a fresh install on a ThinkPad T420 Business x64. I managed to detect the monthly cumulative update. Alas the one from 2022-02 because I had to use an older Servicing stack. (kb4536953 that dates back to 2020-01) I wanted to use a servicing stack that is dated prior to esu preparation tool. The result was that the update succeeded in detecting around 250 updates WITH the ESU preparation update INSTALLED (with 3rd choice on abbodi's tool). At this point it went south because I installed the latest servicing stack and went back to manually installing more updates (I had to re scan). So now I am doing again a fresh install on the ThinkPad and on the VM and I will come back to tell if I manage something.
Yep, it likely will be the last update for Windows Server 2008 64-bit. However, I still want to wait until after the next "patch Tuesday" before doing another clean install of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit.
Hello. Security information updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus and other antimalware from Microsoft for Windows Vista are still being delivered on a daily basis, with the latest on January 17, 2023.
