To "xrononautis". Hello. Unfortunately, as a "newbie" here, I can't enter a link, but just type "Security intelligence updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus and other Microsoft antimalware" into the search engine and choose a specific Microsoft page. These are daily definition updates for Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender, among other OSs, and for x86/x64 Vista.
Microsoft/Windows Defender in Windows Vista is NOT an antivirus app. It is useless to keep it running, so I keep it disabled so it does not run in the background.
You are right, xrononautis, this is exactly what I have been using for the third year. I don't update Defender daily, only when it warns me about an outdated database after about 5 days. In the Defender settings, I have a real-time check preset, which reports and checks every third-party SW installation. Indeed, it consumes almost no OS resources, and surprisingly it continues to receive definitions about Microsoft (...for 17 years since the launch of Vista...)
My guess is that it shares the same engine with Seven so they would have to block it artificially or just let it be.. On a funnier note windows 8 are not listed at all... They fall in the hole between 7 and 8.1 By the way even every 5 days is more than enough. I have a manual mode firewall as a first line of defense. Binisoft Advance Firewall Control if you have heard of it. It is just great. 500kb installation. A front end for the windows firewall. Not that it matters so much anyway..
I can't install KB4493730 on windows vista 64 bit it says its not applicable to my system however i cant patch WUC without installing it
Have you followed the guide exactly as shown from step #1 to step #15 where KB4493730 is installed? What version of Windows Vista 64-bit are you using, and does it contain SP2? Is it a clean original version, or is it a hacked/home brew copy?
I did forget to download an update however that does not fix the issue with that update not letting me apply it It is vista service pack 2 64 bit, It is clean and not homebrewed either The not applying issue also happens with a couple other updates
Thank you, however this is the site where I got my version of Windows Vista from (I use it all the time) I remember trying this guide in the past with the same ISO on another computer and it worked flawlessly. However that was an older version of this guide. I am using Windows Loader to activate, I am installing every update step by step (except the ones that ssay i cant apply it obviously).
I will be doing another test clean install and update of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit after the next "patch Tuesday". I will advise at that time if I am successful or if I run into any issues.
Alright. By the way, I forgot to mention that I was installing Windows Vista Ultimate if that makes any difference.
Thanks for answering my second question in post #627. I have never used the install and update guide with the Ultimate version. I have only used it with the Business version. I do not believe the difference in those versions are at the root of your problem.
Having used Vista 32bit for many years it warms my heart that there's still a group of enthusiasts that are keeping Vista going
I reinstalled windows vista and it worked this time for some reason, although I'm having the same issue still albeit this time with the newest update (it was working last time i tried installing) I think it depends on how you install the updates
When I do a test install and update of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit, I do it in the normal method and not in the virtual machine method. There may be issues in the virtual machine method that I am not aware of.
Say Thanks to @CaptainSpeleo, according to your guideline now I could install all Vista + 2008 updates using Enterprises SP2 but suddenly happened after last reboot and said Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause... File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Status: 0xc0000428 Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature of this file any idea to fix it with signature or replace some file could solve the problem ? and keep waiting online ~~~
Say Thanks to @CaptainSpeleo and all members again ~~~Cheers~~ it's not so hard for me to distribute a new Vista image ~~~ and also I think the error reason is I Integrated too much components in Sysprep mode ~~~ I love this forums and like all guys here ( Truly Appreciated ) with those instructions I had finished XP FLP、Embedded 7、Embedded 8.1 Industry Enterprise / Pro Now ~~~Just for Vista , Sure Windows system
Did you use anything to activate windows that involves the loader? Next time try the kms activation on Vista professional and Enterprise which is clean activation without messing with the system files. Disabling the signature check might help you in this case but I don't know how and I wouldn't recommend it just for this reason.
