xrononautis: I went back to post #56 and searched for your corrected script. Is this the corrected one that I should use to update IE9 and add TLS 1.1_1.2 support all at the same time? I deleted the contents of post #724.
Even thought I've already completed the install and updating of Windows Vista SP2 64-bit, I decided to jump the gun and test your script in post #741. It loaded and went through a lot of scrolling, then it stopped for several seconds at "203 files" with a flashing cursor, then the window closed. The IE9 version still shows 9.0.285, and the TLS 1.1_1.2 boxes are both still checked. I'll assume it's working okay, but I'll test it again after I do another install and updating. If all goes well, I'll edit and shorten step #18 of the guide. Thanks.
For testing purposes you can add "pause" at the end of the script. That way the script won't close until you press a key and you will have time to see the results. In this script you should see 4 error message one per reg delete line. This is normal since they are already deleted and the script can't find them.
I am confused in what you just said. Are you saying the script in post #741 does not automatically add "TLS 1.1" and "TLS 1.2" in the IE9 "Internet Options - Advanced" tab? It only updates IE9 to version 9.0.285? I thought it was supposed to do both at the same time.
I will test the script today with a clean install of Vista SP2 64-bit. I will find out then if it updates IE9 to 9.0.285, and also adds TLS 1.1_TLS 1.2 support.
xrononautis: Good news! When the script is used after a clean install, it updates Internet Explorer to 9.0.285 and it adds TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 settings in the "Internet Options - Advanced" section. The only thing that needs to be done afterwards is to check both boxes and apply the change. If you have time, read step #18 of the guide and see if it looks okay to you.
Step #18 isn't optional. It's needed to get IE9 updated to version 9.0.285. I was advised a long time ago not to omit or ignore this step. I don't remember who advised me.
Today is May 2023 "patch Tuesday", so I will be re-testing and updating the guide in post #1 within the next few days. There are 2 updates: KB5026408 Security Monthly Quality Rollup For Windows Server 2008 KB5026366 Cumulative Security Update For Internet Explorer 9
I did a complete re-test of the guide today and have updated it to reflect the few changes that were made to it. Everything went well with getting the operating system up to date to May 2023.
