Or even better use my script to download everything from microsoft so that they can pay the server costs and then legacy update only for confirming that nothing else is available. xD
Updates for May 2024 "patch Tuesday" for Windows Vista SP2 (already up to date to April 2024): KB5037800 Security Monthly Quality Rollup For Windows Server 2008 KB5037917 Security & Quality Rollup For .NET Framework 4.6.2 For Windows Server 2008 SP2 Note: Windows Update failed to work and kept displaying error code 80072EFE, so both updates had to be manually installed. I decided to create and deploy a registry file with the information that Burdus77 submitted in post #920. I did a restart and loaded Windows Update and did a "Check for updates". Windows Update worked fine and the "Checking for updates" scan ran for several minutes. It eventually displayed a few very old updates which were hidden.
Burdus77: Did you read post #924? If I am correct, Windows Update should work okay when June 2024 patch Tuesday arrives. The next time I fully test the current guide, I will deploy the registry file after step #21 and before step #22.
Yes I read it. I'm glad it got WU back up and running for you. I have had no issues with update checks since switching to the LegacyUpdate servers. abbodi1406 has also mentioned about a possible upcoming fix in this post: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/restore-windows-update-for-vista.82336/page-15#post-1835810
I wasn't sure how to manually create your registry entries in the registry, so I created a .reg file with those registry entries and then merged the .reg file into the registry and then did a restart. As soon as I loaded Windows Update and clicked "Check for updates" and started the scan, it worked fine and displayed no error code warning. Nothing happened for several minutes, but I was very patient and didn't abort the process. About 25 - 30 minutes later, the list of old updates appeared, which I hid. I'm anxious to see how well Windows Update works with obtaining and installing the next "patch Tuesday" round of updates. Thanks for your help.
My plans for today got cancelled, so I had plenty of free time, so I did a clean install of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit. I then proceeded through the GUIDE from start to finish. After deploying and installing Vista_SHA2_WUC in step #20, I deployed WU_Fix_For_Vista_WS2008 which I created with the registry edits that Burdus77 recently provided HERE. It fixed Windows Update and allowed the Vista updates and WS2008 updates to be detected and installed without the 80072EFE error code warning appearing. I determined that WU_DataStore_Fix and BypassESU-v7-WS2008 were not needed, so they now no longer appear in the new guide. Thank you, Burdus77.
I've got 3 updates. Cumulative KB5037800 , installed OK KB890830 , installed but still usefull ? .net KB5038291, donloaded but can't install. Why ?
Burdus77: Even with BypassESU-v7-WS2008 installed, the KB5038291 MNF 4.6.2 update still failed to install for me via Windows Update, as it did for Seven4ever. I had to manually install the KB5037917 MNF 4.6.2 update that abbodi1406 provided HERE.
Thanks Captain, I was sure it installed for me using WU, but maybe this month it might fail. I will use those repacks you linked to going forward!
Let's see what happens when June 2024 patch Tuesday arrives. Hopefully, Windows Update will detect and install all the updates that appear. Putting all that aside, your registry edit worked great in preventing error code 80072EFE from appearing when checking for updates. Let's hope it continues to work.
There shouldn't be any issue going forward. Unless the Dev of LegacyUpdate takes the servers offline. It doesn't have the same restrictions in place that MS has implemented, so I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work next month. The Dev of LegacyUpdate is doing a great job bringing WU back to life on all the old Legacy windows OS.
Hello I have a problem installing KB5038291 on Windows Vista but it kept failing. Does anyone have a solution?
