What was MS's excuse for the lock screen? I could swear they said something about due to trending bla bla.. can't find it now.
All my workstations use Windows 7 Still because that more stable.. For Windows 10 for newer computer like tablet or others, I just simple tweak and not bother check WIN10 Update because they push too little much for Faulty or errors and I also found out, Every big ass patches or Updates they system reset Applications default is pain in the neck! Again, only use 2 computer runs Win10 pro and most all PC is Win7 pro and 4 server use Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise which is great, Don't like Server 2012 or 2016 Yuck same problems like Windows 8 or 10 flavors..
Well, i can say...don't rush it.If you are using a stable system now then you dont need to update it yet.Though personally i can say that Windows 10 is stable if you know that CU to install and what is not.
Patching up a bad job is never as good as a new proper job. So Windows 8 was really meant for tablets, and 8.1 patched it up for desktops, while Windows 10 is a proper desktop version of Windows 8 with additional features as bonus. Not much of a choice, as far as I am concerned.
Windows 7 always felt like as OS that had a whole bunch of unfinished features tossed in. Like installing a driver from the context menu of the .inf file. Never worked in Windows 7 as far as I know. Windows 8-10, works flawlessly, makes installing a random driver easier. Updating Windows 7 is the biggest hassle I've ever had with Windows, it sucks more than the XP days of using IE to update. If for whatever reason you're reinstalling it from an old non-customized ISO... good luck. Don't forget to bring your NIC drivers when you do. Windows 10 has a way better version of dism.exe. Many other lesser-known system command-line utilities are much better. compact.exe lets you save a lot of space with binary compression and better compression ratios. Windows 10 actually properly TRIM's SSDs by default. Windows 7 can still screw up and issue a defrag instead of TRIM. Windows 7 had some "critical" updates that put all of the Windows 10 data collecting in place. A large amount of collecting was already happening long before Windows 10 was released. All other Microsoft software pretty much already collects data anyway. These forums even collect data... By the way... MDL apparently uses Exponential.com as a tracker service embedded into this very forum page as I'm replying. Exponential.com is known to distribute malware (javascript worms/viruses). Beware...
I hear you on that! The lock screen......arrrggghhhh.....why.......it doesn't make any sense! However I do like the OS but it's really just about pushing me to the tipping point! I'm running in 4k so I like the scaling in it....
The only reason why I even installed Windows 10 was so I could test web development and to play some of the games available through the store. Beyond that I find that I'm using Windows 7 more than I use Windows 10. I also keep a copy of Windows XP and Linux installed as well.
