I use ethernet on my laptop which has win 10 pro installed, i haven't set ethernet as metered but have set "notify to download updates" by gpedit.msc
    Is this enough?

Does setting a metered connection affect internet speed at all?

Couldn't notice anything here. The setting only affects the download behavior of Windows components, as Update, Store Apps and such.

hmm, in recent insider builds MS have also allowed users to set ethernet as metered just like wifi, it's a very good implementation having able to set ethernet as metered easily without any tweaks. It further improves our control over updates delivery.
what are your thoughts about it?

My monthly routine on Patch Tuesday is to check system file integrity, clean my system and do an Image with Acronis. Afterwards i check the Update Offer via PS CMDlet and gather all needed updates from the catalog (prefer to have the MSU packs). I mostly install them same day and do some checks for changes in configuration/strange behavior. If nothing noticable happens, the updates get resetbased, ... life goes on.

After setting connection to metered and WU behavior to notify, i didn't need to disable the service or block anything further.

If (and it is still an IF) MS implements a direct Setting for metered internet, even better for all. I still use my script, so it doesn't matter whether the Reg key is protected or not and set the connections i want to the state i wish.

I think maybe in the end it will have to be a third party application as Windows is going to do what they want with their software, and you know as well as me, even if you payed for Windows, Who's
    Your Daddy

With the Creators Update, you can now set a wired Ethernet connection as metered, no need for register hack.

I use Windows Update Minitool always, and have notthing changed in Windows itself.
Set the WUMinitool to Notification mode, and use the tool when Windows say there are new updates.
And i hide updates i not want.

Does WUMT's OFFLINE mode permit downloading of W7 - 10 and Server edition updates to a USB for offline updates of the various Windows versions ?

Currently I am using WSUSOffline, but I am interested in learning if there are any alternatives that will also download and include the "recommended" and "optional" updates in addition to the "critical" and "important" categories.

Dios mio I have to update multiple systems all at one time, including servers, and Windows Update just isn't practical time-wise.
