hi quick and simple question, is there a index of combability issues found by users somewhere on the internets? I was wondering if i could remove the unified telemetry client and using google i found out in this thread that it causes issues with driver download from windows update and sticky notes, stopping windows update installing drivers is a good thing but i do like my sticky notes.

In Windows 11, Settings > Personalisation > Taskbar. Is it possible for the ToolKit to hide the Search from the taskbar and also choose if we want to change the taskbar alignment to left or right?

Do not remove "ShellExperienceHost" and "StartMenuExperienceHost" This can solve your problem or you can try to use Removepkgslist of previous version of MSMG_Toolkit_13.3

In Windows 10 this was related to the removal of Cortana, or any Component that Cortana depends on to function.
So in that case, you would have to keep "Cortana", "SpeechRecognition" and disable Cortana in the tweaks.
But that would be just for you to be able to test, because if I'm not mistaken, the MSMG already fixed it. But in new updates there might be some changes and the problem returned.

To do an in-place upgrade I need to keep the manual setup component, right?
    Is that all?

Yes, and the Manual Setup depends on WinRe.wim. So dont remove It.

You were the one who said this thing of duplicate registry happened, weren't you?
If so, I have a question for you.
    If not, never mind.

How do you check if the registry has duplicated something after in-place update?

    Thank you in advance!

    Yes, that was me.

For the last 4 months my sons brand new PC has been getting occasional BSODs and frequent freezing. We've replaced every hardware component and I even loaned him a new PC and we can't figure out what is going on. Updated the BIOS several times, updated all drivers and nothing works.

He's using an image with the 2023-03 patch (2728).
All I kept was all accessibility tools, IE, Search, Paint, Firewall, Windows update (though it's disabled), Net 6, 3.5, Notepad, Capture picker and Webview2Sdk.

So I'm now at the bottom of the barrel. Without reinstalling from scratch again the only thing I can try is an in place upgrade. I'm hoping it doesn't solve the problem bceause of the issues I have with in place upgrades.

When I am going to upgrade a PC I backup the registry settings for all installed programs and games. I then do a full export of HKCU and HKLM.
I can then interrogate those registry hives and figure out if the client has added any new programs and games that I need to cater for.
As I looked through the registry backups I noticed that the keys were concatenated. I asked my son about it and he said he had upgraded from 1809 to 1903 then 1909 the 20h1 via Windows update.
Every time he upgraded over the top of his installation many registry keys got concatenated more.

(This is a make believe keys as an example).

    so HKCU\Software\steam\steamapps\xyz became HKCU\Software\steam\steamapps\xyz\corey\Software\steam\steamapps\xyz
    Then HKCU\Software\steam\steamapps\xyz\corey\Software\steam\steamapps\xyz\corey\Software\steam\steamapps\xyz\corey\Software\steam\steamapps\xyz
    and so on.

I restored him back to 1809 and then an inplace upgrade to prove it, and sure enough, the registry keys got concatenated again.

I have no idea why (I've only ever seen this with Windows 10), and I have no clue how to fix it. So I just stuck with clean installs.

If you create a new user on a machine that has received so many updates, the new user is clean but I believe it continues to support the installed software.

That would be a good test.

I did this a long time ago. And just to keep the name of my username (it is possible to rename it, but I wanted something clean) I did the procedure of creating a new local user. I entered with a winpe, copied the user folder, restarted the machine in that provisional user that was created, deleted my default user and created it again with the same name.

Remember one thing, move user folders (documents, downloads, images, music, videos) to another place out of \users\user will improve the in-place update performance.
Especially if more than 50% of the storage is full. Backup tries to automate this, but it takes too long.
