MSMG, after removing Windows Defender in W10 RS3, you can also apply a tweak to turn off Windows Defender Security Center Service: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;Windows Defender Security Center Service [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SecurityHealthService] "Start"=dword:00000004
^^ dude how many times MSMG already tell that new version for 16299.15 still NOT finished he was working a lot so only wait next release
This tweak turns off Windows Defender Security Healtn Center only, but Windows Firewall continues to work.
Hey, new here and just found this tool a couple of days ago. I also just downloaded an ISO of the Creators Update version of Windows and have been having trouble with MSMG not finding it or not being able to find files within it properly. Is this simple a problem of the version of MSMG? I got the latest one off of MG website.
You should be more specific about what files it's not finding, but I'll bet what you mean is it isn't finding the wim file, probably because the iso you have is using ESD for compression. Convert it to wim first. Otherwise, see this post about the compatibility/development status with Fall Creators Update/RS3/1709/16299: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/msmg-toolkit.50572/page-205#post-1380136
Sorry for the noob question: Does removing any of the components cause cumulative updates to fail? I've used other custom "lite" ISO tools (WinReducer, NTLite) and removing components mean that at some point, cumulative updates will fail (Due to "component store" error). I wonder if this is the case with MSMG Toolkit EDIT: I read some of the previous pages and apparently removing Windows Defender causes this. Does this apply to all "System Apps" (e.g Edge) or just Windows Defender? EDIT2: Ok so it seems that removing anything in the \SystemApps\ Folder would cause updates to fail. Does this then apply to win32 components, like System Restore?
Well I always remove everthing with msmg toolkit except media player and IE and till now no cumulative update had failed.
True, but according to some previous posts, ever since Creators Update, Windows will check your system with sfc /scannow; and if the system decides that everything it wants to be there isn't there, the update would fail.
Removing components, removing apps from ISO using MSMG will never break your system and updates install fine with no errors. However, I can't say about NTlite, which gave me problems last time with RS2, dism failing. They both use different mechanisms. I prefer MSMG over NTlite though the latter can chop more. I don't know about the recent NTlite versions, may be @MonarchX could verify this.
NTLite up to version 1.3 > Failed to install updates after removing components and gets corrupted component store. NTLite from version 1.4 onwards > Do not fail with updates and the Dism /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth command reports without component store corruption. WinReducer > Gets component store corrupted (I do not know about installing updates). Dism (MSMG Toolkit) removes fewer things, it seems that removing everything related to some packages corrupts the component store, some things need to be maintained.
Maybe a dumb question but have no idea the best to do: I have an SSD running Windows 10 1703 stripped with nice MSMG ToolKit ( - Remove all apps and Defender + some others as telemetry, Onedrive etc.. ) Question : What is the best way to go in order NOT no get all crap installed again. 1- Let Windows Update Upgrade / install 1709. 2- In place upgrade with the ISO 1709 I have downloaded, using setup from the ISO into USB flash drive. 3- Make a custom ISO file with MSMG ToolKit and do an same as (2) ?? Thanks for advice..
Well, your are right. I will wait until the next MSMG ToolKit release. Why to be so hurry to get some more crap... I make the ISO as I am Insider since 2014, but I like to play...
