This is why i mentioned that it probably best for those that not want defender on their pcs to remove it via other tools from the install.wim or disable it after installation. One reason why i made the 'unlock defender' option so it tames it and does not affect the os. Unless a update causes problems with slowdowns, but this unlock option has not slowed down or made sluggish all the test installs ive done over the past few weeks.
Disabling the windows firewall can cause issues with 3rd party firewalls such as binisoft/malwarebytes or sphinx ones as they use the win fw as their base, they just seem to be a better gui for it technically. Norton, eset, comodo etc have their own coded firewalls.
I noticed the defender disabler/enabler program by sordum or sordim has been discontinued as they found issues with w1x defender too!
The problem is if you don't disable defender it will keep detect files even if there's another antivirus installed, i think a memory scanner or something keep running
With the unlock defender option in mrp , if you install another av then go into defender app and make sure real time and tamper is off then in my testing defender stays off and not do anything as i block auto scanning which would turn it back on.
I have tried with panda dome free av then make sure defender is off. It so far not took over again. Have tested it for a few weeks on a pc, and no defender sneaking in the background nabbing files. Obviously others may have different results with other avs. I just liked panda av as it not invasive like some free avs, it may not be as good as norton etc but then its free.
I'm using Kaspersky, and disable Defender using a cmd + Defender control, didn't find any problems yet I can send it to you if you want I will test Defender again to check witch option if still running even if it say another antivirus is taking control
Mrp's Disable defender definatly keeps it off, win 10 no issues it totally disabled. On w11 it is still disabled but it seems it is so integrated on 11 that it can cause weird speed issues more so on newer w11 designed/compatible hardware, although that may be win updates or a defender update trying to reinstate defender but my forced disablement of it gives it a major headache that ms cant fix.
Most of my hardware is not w11 compatible so i use the bypasses to install it, not had issues with 11 and defender disabled. I had used the pc with no av installed for days, no issues. Then using the panda one, still no slow downs etc.
I only install W11 on supported hardware because some programs/games once they detect W11 it needs the requirements that you already bypassed, i saw people complain about that Same games works fine on Win10 on same pc
W11 is a very strange os as we all probably feel the same about. My main pc is fully 11 compatible yet i have never installed 11 on it!! W10 does what i need so im in no rush to side/down grade
I was on win 10 th2 then upgraded to rs3 and was on that way past rs5 had been released, i only put 20h2 on my main pc as i had upgraded the whole pc. When i was on rs3 i had disabled updates totally for a few years. It wasn't broke so i never 'fixed' with a half arsed newer w10 build.
Interesting about that smart app control, one of the options in mrp is to prevent sending diagnostic data or at least set it to lowest on editions you cant zero it, pro/home i think only basic is lowest permitted on those. Trouble is these days ms are putting things together in a single app etc so hard to control a single area like before. Its like the theme processor they fiddled with that too, no idea why as its worked since xp/vista. Change for change sake i guess.
I had not added anything in MRP about that 'Smart App Control', have now It has its own option in the Creator now and have put a tool tip/MsgBox informing that it cannot be reverted unless a OS reset or clean install is performed. It will also now be applied automatically when using the 'Disable Defender' option as it not required if you fully disable Defender and prevents it from working with other AV's in 'Hybrid' mode. Note: It is not automatically set using the 'Unlock Defender' option so the user can make a choice. I have set it as an 'Advanced' option so only visible in the Creator when the program is run as Administrator. This is for Win10/11 as it may also be back ported to Windows 10, it does no harm if it not ever used on w10 as the OS will just ignore it -- added 'just in case'... The registry entry 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CI\Policy' key is 'protected' so anything within that section cannot be changed on-the-fly so MRP will unlock the entry to perform the disable operation. This is the Registry entry: Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; 0 = Disable ; 1 = Enable ; 2 = Evaluation Mode [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CI\Policy] "VerifiedAndReputablePolicyState"=dword:00000000 This will hopefully be the last option added as there is a LOT of changes from v150 that has been done and testing is in the last stage(s) and not want to have more delays than is necessary in this release as I'm guessing many are wanting to give this release a thrashing too.
I have allso SSD with the OS installed. I have today installed newest Win11 version, but did not disabled Defender with MRP now. I only disabled it manualy (because Sordum is not working anymore). I did a Windows Update after the installation. Until now NO slowdowns. Hope it stays this way.
