When I try and install on Win 8 x64 I get the error - Windows cannot read the <ProductKey> setting from the unattend answer file. If I install using Win 8.1 it works fine. Using GPT disk and 2nd partition setup.

Win 8.1 you cannot use windows update during sysprep, nor can you activate windows. Had something to do with windows updates rebbbting during OOBE causing problems, never ever had any issue like that. Stupid move by MS but probably done for activation.

There are a few workarounds for updating

You have some things backwards.....win 8.x is online while in sysprep and can get all updates without issues....I have done this several times without issues. I have even activated while in audit mode and it holds when doing recovery. I always do my machines like this so number one they are activated soon as end user recovery is done plus it can have all updates that you installed back in audit mode. Think you are confusing vista/win7 with win 8.x.

    Hi Guys,

I was able to install windows 7 following the guide and everything works perfectly, i created the USB recovery option and just wanted to test what would happen if say my hard drive died, so i put a new hard drive in my machine and booted off the USB drive and ran the recovery everything was working fine it prompted me saying the recovery completed however on reboot i get BOOTMGR is missing, is this possible ? when i look into bcdedit the windows installation has the drive letter D: assigned to it and i believe the bootmgr is assigned to C:

any help would greatly be appreciated

Hi. Anarethos. First would like to thank you for this useful tool. I have already installed windows with my custom settings. I'm using latest recovery tool.
    1. 20Gb recovery
    2. 150mb System letter S
    3. Windows partition with letter C
At the moment I'm facing problem during recovery from recovery partition. No boot sector found. I believe it is a due to different letters assigned to partitions.
Question is. Which entries should I change to make my setup working? As I understand I need to change letter "w" for letter "c" in settingsRE.txt (WINDOWSLETTER=W). Right? What else?

There are two files you have to edit one of which is the one you listed but there is another one. I don't have access to my ext hdd now but if you look at all the files you will find the other one to edit. I had to do the same for I wanted it to say C instead of W also. I remember there was two files though to edit. I am sorry I couldn't help more. :(

    The two files are probably:
    ResetPartitions.txt
    SettingsRE.txt
