I was thinking the same thing, I had a look for a script to hide posts / threads from trolls but none of them worked on this forum...so i guess add to ignore list and report is all one can do.
It should go without saying, but people who support your project idea but don't have anything significant to add to the conversation vastly outnumber those who decry your efforts, we just don't post as much as the trolls. The thread has over 15K views as of this writing, so you know there is plenty of interest and enthusiasm about your project. So keep it up
I don't think i've gone to far on anything, I just like experimenting. The difference between what i'm doing and what progs like winreducer and ntlite do is, i'm not trying to make a 600mb install, i'm just trying to remove as much of the windows 8/10 crap and restore removed / disabled features where possible. replacing files in "random" combinations just happens to be part of the experiment and it worked so i see no issue there. I have lots of beta software to hand so i thought i'd try older files. You don't just blindly delete a bunch of stuff and hope windows still works, it doesn't work that way. You need to investigate and experiement...
Hi dude do not care about the opposing fans simply follow your path and ball forward and even who knows these same "opponents" also want to use your project when ready
A. No one is obligated to use any windows modification project. B. Everyone has the right to create their own Windows modification project. Modification projects come in 2 different forms: A. A project designed to address the needs of the community. B. A passion project designed to address the vision of the author. Anyone that can't see the simplicity here is just looking for trouble.
small update; classic control panel items added; game controllers add hardware scanners and cameras printers non 7 cpl's removed; file history stoarge spaces fixed issue with windows calendar, forgot a few reg keys, so button in windows mail works exported reg keys for classic sticky notes and sound recorder from w8.1 replaced ribbon ui dlls with ones from a w8 beta, the ones from w7 rtm didn't work 100%, explorer windows kept closing by themselves at random added a few more w7 start menu shortcuts
It will be interesting to see how you add those 2 items because i would like to add the to w7s Control Panel.
Think i'm going take the ntlite route (not using the program) but instead of removing packages via dism or install_wim_tweak just removed stuff manually. I run into an awful lot of "undoing changes" when using dism or install_wim_tweak and it's rather annoying, seem both of those methods do not always work 100%, packages do eventually get removed if you keep re-doing the removals but alot of the time i end up with a corrupt component store and then you get the bs error "sources file could not be found" when the source has been specified when trying to repaire. Most annoying thing is when the optional features dialog is "blank" and repairing the store does bugger all and there's never a "store dirty" entry in the reg that various sites claim it to be when that happens, at least not when i've looked. I think cutting out package removals will be much quicker, i've already been trawling through the winsxs folder and making a list of manual removals and sofar windows is behaving. (mostly looking for all the appx packages and other stuff) does anyone know if ntlite outputs a list of all the files it removes in a log when you do an online removal?
I think it doesnt show removed files in log, but maybe you could use something like SysTracer to get list of removed files by first using it before removing feature with ntlite, then after removing feature and rebooting use systracer again and compare 2 snapshots to see deleted and changed files.
^ good idea. also i've now switched to nsudo, finally got it figured out and works great, less clicking to do now. seems better than runasti, so i tip my cap to the author.
It's explained in the post you just replied to, third line from the bottom, "stay tuned for more info and an eventual download (when all works to my satisfaction)"
I think this sounds like an interesting project, but, I don't understand the point of posting about it for 3 months when nobody can see it or try it out. Letting people try it would be a good way to get information about what works and what needs improvement.
I don't know about ntlite but WinReducer stores a setting file that has a lot of stuff in ti. ...\WinReducer\HOME\PRESETS\LastUsed\ Like this: ... <Element Category="Remove - Drivers" Name="Hyper-V - Keyboard" Selected="false" /> <Element Category="Remove - Drivers" Name="Hyper-V - Network" Selected="false" /> <Element Category="Remove - Drivers" Name="Hyper-V - PCI Bus" Selected="false" /> <Element Category="Remove - Drivers" Name="Hyper-V - Shutdown" Selected="false" /> <Element Category="Remove - Drivers" Name="Hyper-V - Storage" Selected="false" /> <Element Category="Remove - Drivers" Name="Hyper-V - Time Synchronization" Selected="false" /> ...
Its a good idea to post before the project is ready for release. It is thinking out loud, gaining public opinion and suggestions.
