Hi, a few days ago I reinstalled Vista on a laptop of mine and followed all the steps to get WU working again, so to get to the point WU takes forever to check for updates with the Server 2008 patch installed from Patch_WUC obviously (And yes I have Vista updated all the way btw). I have no clue what I did wrong, I have the latest SSU and I also have the latest ESU enablement update installed btw.
WinGlass: Did you follow all the steps in the guide https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...s-vista-sp2-64-bit-beyond-its-eol-date.83461/ exactly as they are posted? The KB4575904 ESU LPP for ESU does not work anymore and will break Windows Update.
Yes I did, and I didn't know that KB4575904 broke WU (and I do have it installed), so maybe that's why WU is stuck at checking for updates, I guess I'll try to uninstall that update and install KB4538484 to see if that fixes the issue.
If you uninstall KB4575904 and then do a restart, Windows Update should work okay. Installing the older KB4538484 in its place will probably break Windows Update again. I have tried different versions of the ESU LPP, and none of them work.
I guess no Server 2008 ESU updates for me, and that's fine honestly since I don't really care about updates
I`m still stuck with error in "Install_WUC.cmd": "Installing language packages failed" Hyper-V on Win10-Host, Guest is "Vista_x64_DE_SP2_ULTIMATE_DE" (german), all prequisites installed, "winmgmt-service" is running, "Defender and UAC are deactivated, several reboots.
The german untouched iso should be "de_windows_vista_sp2_x64_dvd_342287.iso". The one you have doesn't seem to be official. Vista didn't came with Ultimate specific versions as far as I know. It could be wise to download the one I mention just to be sure. Or even the english one and see if the problem persist. (This is my way of saying "I have no clue" xD)
Honestly I have never tried to install anything but English versions. This Legacy Update (it is the first time I see it) sound like it is for XP 64bit. At any rate would shouldn't need to update the windows update agent since the abbodi's patch updates it to 7.7 anyway. Also as Captain said WS2008 is for vista (Windows 6.0). Was it a typo from your side? Have you tried the English ISO? For the same of me being picky can you download again de_windows_vista_sp2_x64_dvd_342287.iso or at least check the hash of it? My files are in cold storage so I cannot help you with this at the moment.
Problem & Solution: I made some folders so i could work step-by-step. I moved all related files into their folders to avoid failures and mix-up. Problem: To get these files/folders into my VM i used a tool "Folder2ISO" and created a "WUC.iso" which i could mount in VirtualBox. I worked like that for years without any problems. In this case "Folder2ISO" screwed up the files in an unknown way, so the error ocurred in DE and EN version of Vista. Solution: I copied the folder into root of the Setup-ISO so they are accessable after installation - no more language-error!
Can WU/MU by using the patch + proxy method and WU/MU by using the nginx method working together on the same system by fixing wuaueng.dll? The two ways patch of the wuaueng.dll aren't the same.
I get this error when trying to install any update. Fixes online tell you to disable UAC, or change your user account to an administrator (it already is). Edit: This is because it's trying to install the Malicious Software Removal Tool, which isn't compatible with Vista. Just hide the update.
