CaptainSpeleo, I glad that worked for you. I guess we will have to use that method unless abbodi1406 would like to try to figure out the problem. I know he is busy with other things but maybe he will get a moment to check into it. I am appreciative for all he has done.
Your suggestion to switch from option #3 to option #2 worked fine, so thanks again for your input. abbodi1406 was very helpful to me several months ago in getting a clean install of Windows Vista SP2 64-bit up to date. I have edited my guide to show it now being up to date to March 2021. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/restore-windows-update-for-vista.82336/page-2#post-1632575 Frank
No it most probably isn't. While the updates themselves show as installed, many (especially newer) packages inside them are applicable only to Server 2008 SP2 (build 6003) and are skipped on Vista SP2 (6002). Just something to consider.
I probably should have said: "This install of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit (with post-April 2017 Windows Server 2008 64-bit updates integrated into it) is now up to date to March 2021."
i cant get the updates to work, i tried everything i tried installing updates, the patch and it still didnt work i have windows vista SP2 64-bit Ultimate on my vm i want to get the latest updates for my vm, and if the updates work then i will probably install windows vista on my main computer, i get the error code 8072EFD on the windows update
well, i now dualboot windows vista and 7, i tried to get the latest updates for windows vista but it didnt work, i installed the patch and then i clicked on windows update, and it said it was the latest but i knew it wasnt because i clicked on installed updates and there were only a few updates, i started checking for updates and it kept checking infinitely, i dont know how to fix it. I would appreciate if some of you helped me
R3inF0rceD: Have you read the Windows Vista SP2 64-bit update guide and followed it carefully and correctly? https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/restore-windows-update-for-vista.82336/page-2#post-1632575
OH YES IT WORKS NOW, it kept checking and checking then i read a little bit and i saw to install some updates to speed up the process for checking so i installed those updates and it worked!!!! i now have the latest updates i think
I don't believe that there is anything fundamentally wrong with choosing directly the option 3 for both Vista and Server 2008 Updates. Keep in mind though that many of the updates are the same and presented under both Vista and Server 2008. What I did was to choose first the Vista updates (deselected everything under Server 2008) let them install, rebooted and let the Trusted Installer do its own thing. The next time that it offered me updates the list for both Vista and Server 2008 groups were updated. So you can either go with choices #1 and then #2 or directly 3# but don't mix-install updates from both groups. From the number 195 out of 327 that you say I guess that the system froze when finished the Vista important updates and then tried the Server 2008 ones. Edit: I saw somewhere that there is a limit of how many updates you can do at once. Because of a weird bug you can't do more than 150 at once apparently. I don't know if this is indeed the case but it did hang on me as well when i tried to do all the 172 initial updates at once with no restart. Imagine I was doing them offline using the .msu files from the catalog.
xrononautis: Posts #22 and #23 in this thread that you're referring to are 8 months old. Have you read the other thread? https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...s-vista-sp2-64-bit-beyond-its-eol-date.83461/
Hey Captain! I have seen it but not test it. I will try it out. I am working on my own on an offline way to do the updates. On top of the Vista SHA WUC patch. Nothing fancy but I have downloaded from the microsoft catalog all the updates that showed up and now I am experimenting on the optimal sequence to install them. Anyway I guess I should move the the other thread Thank you!
My friend go the the first post and click the first spoiler under the requirements. Greek is not a language supported by Windows Server 2008.
