I am really curious about how they are going to fix Spectre-related vulnerabilities. For Spectre bios has to be updated. That falls on motherboard manufacturers. All motherboards from 2000-2018 Haven’t seen anything for my Gigabyte board.
@Mikorist: Your post made me search around for my own MoBo. I haven't found anything as of yet. (Asus P8Z77-V PRO) I think you're correct. This issue will probably be pushed off onto the MoBo manufacturers via a BIOS update.
@taviruni Compared to last years release I'm seeing specific updates for Ivy Bridge, Haswell, Broadwell, Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake & Gemini Lake CPUs. Out of the 94 files only 19 of them are different. @taviruni To check if it's actually working you should use the powershell script. The result should look the same as the what's within the spoiler.
I did, but that result still doesn't mean that you're safe from Spectre. The powershell script will tell you if you are.
@taviruni You're still vulnerable to Spectre. If the VMware program did work for you then I guess it didn't update your microcode to a Spectre patched version.
