I have an old system running Windows 7 that Windows Update said was fully up to date and the update history looked pretty recent. Decided to try this program on it since i've never seen it before and figured it might be missing some updates released after end of official support. I downloaded UpdatePack7R2-20.8.13.exe and ran it on the PC, it scanned for updates and listed 6 that it should install. The program installed the 6 updates and then rebooted the PC and it kept rebooting and running random things then rebooting again, took about 5hrs for it to finish up. Not sure exactly what it does but I saw disk cleanup cleaning the Windows Update files for an hr at one stage then I just left it be for the rest of the reboots. Anyone know what tasks this program performs on a live system in addition to installing missing updates?
Depending on how old and uncleaned the system was, it may or may not have been too big of a mess for the UpdatePack to do its job quickly. Generic terms like the ones quoted aren't gonna be enough to diagnose. Find and post the logs as requested above. Don't worry, they don't contain personal information. If it were me, I'd much rather save myself the hassle and perform a clean install with an offline updated image.
It worked perfectly on my computer. On another computer it encountered some hiccups but still managed to finish.
It did complete successfully (I presume?) eventually because after leaving it to run through for the day it stopped rebooting and was normal, just wondering what tasks this performs besides installing updates by default? Not sure how much hassle you would save from doing a clean install, always fun asking the client to try and find old office install media, ask for serial number for obscure product you've never heard of that went out of business 5yrs ago but they 'can call the guy who made it', "I got that program from my relative and don't have the disc anymore, can you try and get it working from the old folders?" etc. I try to avoid doing a clean install whenever possible. They haven't picked up the system yet so I could plug it back in and check the logs, what folder are they in?
Somebody have full update list proposed WU for freshly installed Windows Embedded 7 Standard? They are better integrated through windows embedded toolkit or dism?
With Simplix Pack on Windows Embedded 7 Standard I have long network initialization after desktop appears. With Windows 7 Ultimate and update pack I not have this issue. Therefore, I want to compare maybe some kind of update package is not enough or extra. PS: Drivers used after installation of both systems are the same.
I notice on the first page it talks about 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. 5 being the Ultimate version (guessing Pro is 4) Is the Enterprise version supported? thanks, michael
