I understand and thank you very much for helping. Perhaps we should resume tomorrow? Just in case this is useful to help work out the problem. UpdatePack does not seem to even notice IE needs updating when it first scans for previous installed updates. Now get some sleep !!!!
Just noticed that if UpdatePack is renamed to UpdatePack7R2--ie11++.exe when it finishes it's first check to see if updates are required it just closes on its own. If I leave the name UpdatePack7R2-20.11.27.exe when it has finished the first check it opens a completed window and offers for me to press Finish or read the log. Neither naming option installs IE11 though.
Well you have already got further than I have as UpdatePack does not notice IE11 is needed on mine. It could be because I have used previous versions of UpdatePack before updatepack 20.11.27. I will experiment some more and come back here tomorrow. Thanks for your help tonight.
Not expected, simplix pack is meant to be used monthly without having to use WU. My usual tests for this is on a simplix 20.1.17 (pre ESU) updated ISO install.
@Enthousiast Thank you for testing! I suspected it might work for you but I still have the same problem. I have found another installation of Win 7 (separate hard drive) which has the same problem as the first drive I tried. Interestingly I have a third which works! A friend has contacted me to say his laptop does not update using the UpdatePack7R2 either. Obviously this problem is something to do with what is installed or not installed on each OS. I am worried that I happened to notice IE 11 not being updated because it is an obvious thing but I wonder if various updates are also not being installed which I would not know are missing? I will try to see what the difference or similarities are between the OS which updated and those that did not. As I mentioned to Enthousiast I have found one install which works and has updated using the latest UpdatePack7R2 so I am going to try to see what is different about it to those which do not update. If you accept feature requests would it be possible to provide a command switch to force the update of Internet Explorer? Also would it be possible for UpdatePack7R2 to allow the user to force all updates in case the checks for installed updates fails because of an error on the OS? I have made some progress... I have restored a previous image of the drive and then ran UpdatePack7R2-20.11.27.exe I noticed there were 8 updates and one of them was IE11 !!!! UpdatePack7R2-20.11.27.exe notified me it needed to re-boot and it did. During this first reboot there was a warning from windows. "Failure to configure windows update reverting changes" After another reboot the other updates install without problem. So it seems as if UpdatePack7R2-20.11.27.exe does try to install IE11 but gets stuck. If UpdatePack7R2-20.11.27.exe is run again it does not notice that IE11 is still not installed.

Thank you so much for doing all that testing Enthousiast. Please don't spend any more time on my problem I am feeling guilty about all the work you are doing. I just wondered why UpdatePack7R2 was not able to install IE11 and more importantly how would a user know if an update for something else was also not being installed. I have downloaded and installed IE11 now which installed correctly so please don't spend further time on me. My only suggestion or request is there perhaps be additional checks made by UpdatePack7R2 for currently installed updates or software. Perhaps make UpdatePack7R2 more tolerant of errors on users computers? Thank you Enthousiast for all you do maintaining this thread and thank you simplix for UpdatePack7R2
