Trying this is on my To Do List. It would be my first run at using SD10. To be honest, I'm probably a week or two away (no real timeline, per se). A question arises: re: 19044.xxxx_EnterpriseS_x64.xml This file resides in the DATA > PersonalTweaks > NTLitePresets folder. My problem: this file is pt-BR Q1: does an en-US version exist? Q2: that file references an ImportPowerPlan1.cmd file, where is that file located? Q3: that file references a UAC.reg file, is it publicly available?
It appears in Brazilian Portuguese because of my host system and the image I edited in my language. However, this won't affect your usage, as NTLite will recognize the host system and the language of the image being edited. The line for ImportPowerPlan1.cmd should be removed, since that is being executed by SetupComplete.cmd. The line for UAC.reg can also be removed, as that registry entry is added by the script. I am fixing the 19044.xxxx_EnterpriseS_x64.xml file here as well.
How much disk space is needed? I tried to run on a 4.56 GB LTSC 2021 x64 ISO from inside a VM with just over 18 GB of disk space available. It crapped out and only log errors are in regards to not enough disk space.
Okay, so I can at least now officially say that I have tried Slimdown10. I'll experiment some more (especially to reverse-engineer however it adds Open-Shell during Windows install). It took my original ISO from 4.56 GB and reduced to 3.38 GB (no updates slipstreamed). And while "not for everyone", I do wish that it had options to REMOVE: Windows Search / Indexer Windows Security Service Windows Update Diagnostic Policy Service Data Usage Delivery Optimization Distributed Link Tracking Client Display Policy Service (it's for REMOTE displays, not physically connected displays/monitors) Base Filtering Engine Microsoft Sync Center Xbox Game Bar Game Mode Phone link app Snipping Tool Remote Desktop Connection Ease of Access (magnifier/narrator/on-screen keyboard/speech recognition) No paging file DEP off completely
And maybe I missed it, but I would prefer an option to NOT add the EXTRA folder. Not on the desktop, not anywhere else. Just my opinion...
I should point out that I did not test the WPI option. Will try that with my next round in the next day or so. To be honest, I assumed WPI to be a SOLICITATION to install Firefox. Only because many of these types of developers try to ram that junk down our throat. To each their own, as always.
The advantage of WPI is that you can choose what to install—some things or nothing at all. It’s as simple as that. I use it because I find it very versatile. And I also added just a few basic open-source/free apps.
Here's a screenshot of the contents in the DVD folder: Now, I'm going to launch a WinPE, then diskpart the disk, then dism apply-image using the install.wim file and finally the command bcdboot to make Windows bootable. So I'm not going to create an ISO file. 1. Do I still need files: 17763.xxxx_EnterpriseS_x64.xml, Autounattend.xml or any other file to install Windows? 2. If so, where to put them? Thanks.
So I ran the WPI this time. While "not for me", per se, I do give it two thumbs up as "good for many", just not my thing. And I highly applaud that it does not ramrod junk browsers that only 3% to 4% of the entire world still persists on "going down with the ship".
A little reminder out loud for newbies like me, don't use Yumi or Ventoy, instead use Rufus, otherwise WPI won't find the files, since Yumi copies the entire ISO, it doesn't unzip it. I spent a couple of hours and reinstall trying to understand why.
17763.xxxx_EnterpriseS_x64.xml must be placed inside the %programfiles%\NTLite\presets folder. Autounattend.xml must be placed inside the DVD folder.
Thanks for letting me know, I'll keep it in mind for the next time I do the process again! I hope it also helps someone else who has had the same problem.
I'm sorry. I don't understand and just to be sure I explained myself, I rephrased my previous comment and reposted it. Here's a screenshot of the contents in the DVD folder after the script ended: Now, NOT creating and using an ISO file, I'm going to install Windows this way: 1. Launch a WinPE 2. Then diskpart the disk to create the boot and OS partitions 3. Then select the install.wim created by the Slimdown10 script 4. Run "Dism /apply-image /imagefile:W:\«longpath»\install.wim /index:1 /applydir:C:\" 5. Finally, run «bcdboot C:\Windows /s N: /f uefi» to make Windows bootable. 6. Restart 7. Specialization phase begins Question: 1. Where the files named 17763.xxxx_EnterpriseS_x64.xml adn Autounattend.xml go if I'm not going to use the ISO only the install.wim file as described above? Note: I assume, since I'm installing Windows from an install.wim file only, I don't need the DVD folder structure anymore. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.
