When I try to block it, it comes back in a new place. Also I can't uninstall it. What can I do, other than switching to linux, to get rid of this PITA.

    Capture.PNG

I am on Win10 without Office.

Just nuclearize edge with the scripts shared here, and install a decent browser like vivaldi

Can you give me a hint to those scripts or a good project here for that? But I have my doubts that edge will be gone after it. I am a happy FF user.

I haven't used Windows default Winre in a long time since I prefer the much better version of it (bootable WinPE USB). I'll even make sure Winre.wim gone every time I fresh install Windows. So pardon me if this is a stupid question, but can we open File Explorer easily in Winre without using cmd?

The last time I tried it (long time ago) I had to type Notepad.exe via cmd because "File > Open" menu in Notepad can be used as Explorer alternative. Explorer in Winre/WinPE mode is powerful not only for emergency data backup, but also for scriptless debloat tool since we can get rid of many bloatwares simply by deleting their particular folders, without "access denied" popup like what we will get if we try that in live OS.

    Edge folders = C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft
    UWP apps folder = C:\Program Files\WindowsApps

What's the point of winre when you can easily dual/multiple boot a small vhdx with a lean functional x86 installation that takes just little more than 2GB?

perhaps what this has to do with getting rid of Edgium?

Whatever, you can just use strelec, that can be booted from USB or "installed" in the HDD, not a traditional installation but way more useful than the average stupid winpe.

Let alone Strelec, even outdated Hiren's is still better than Windows default Winre.

Custom WinPE inside Windows, yes I did that too. Just take boot.wim from our favorite WinPE iso, rename it to Winre.wim then replace Windows default Winre with it.

First, I don't know if this is related to Edge at all, some other users here think it is an infection...
Second, I don't want to run some power shell code from a forum post. If Edge is the problem, maybe there is some app around here, that allows for doing that in a more controlled way.

Edit: I just run Edge (kinda the first time, I never use it on my own) and deactivated everything in its options, like autostart etc. Maybe this already helps...

Ok, the usual conceited kid that ask for help, but thinks is more smart than people that provided a solution.

    Helping you again? No thanks.

Hiren's has that invaluable fix_hdc script and it's still the only think I'm aware of able to do what it does. But being a bit old may not boot on recent HW, especially those ugly machines that boots only from UEFI

No not the best thing to do, especially if you are on multiple vhdx.

Instead just delete the useless winre inside the vhdx (it's a lot of space wasted) and use the strelec script to add it to your bootloader.

It would be a single, independent winre inside it's own folder, and you can safely move your vhdx back and fort w/o worrying about their internal image.

Isn't it (BGAUpdate.exe.) that Microsoft Bing Service 2.0 update which installs Bing Wallpaper and is actually optional?!? (can be removed from the install media)

Edit: Why not just prevent it from start?

Back to my stupid question: is there a way to easily open Explorer in Windows default Winre without cmd (and of course without using custom WinPE)? Many people still have Winre in their Windows, and despite being garbage to me I still hope that garbage (Winre) can be at least useful to get rid of another garbage (bloatwares).

I have no idea, i never use it. Bloatware can be easily removed starting from another OS. Having (minimum )two parallel OSes it's really something that everyone should really do to avoid troubles if one of the two becomes ubootable/attacked by malware and so on. Even in the good old win95 days I had a dual boot between win3.11 and win95 or win95+winnt

In the worst case just use the install media and start winre from it. Really it's just wasted space.

That said why not use a decent filemeanger like XY explorer or the tiny Explorer++ instead of fighting with explorer?
