It would be nice to see a new OS where legacy support is emulated/virtualized seamlessly. As long as everything that is even slightly recent/popular must be supported, there really isn't a good way to do a "new" OS.
What would be good is if they made an operating system without putting in so much rubbish and whoever wants to put or add something to it is Microsoft Store s, it would be a less heavy system and of course the drivers should not ask for a digital signature so why would you want a board with TPM 2.0 if it does not recognize it because its drivers are not digitally signed or they do not appear in BIOS, by chance it is ASUS, it has TPM 2.0 but there is no way for Windows 11 to recognize them, they do not have a digital signature or they are not in BIOS
Where are these posts supposed to come from when Microsoft still hasn't said a single word anywhere publicly about Windows 12. All that is known is that he is coming and it can be assumed that somewhere in the second half of year 2024 will appear on the Canary channel, but initially not even for all insiders publicly. So be patient and wait calmly.
I actually don't care about the bloat BUT only if they also offer a clean workstation version that is literally just the OS. Choice is good, MS is not a big fan of choice.
I would say, finally. They planned it since Windows 10, but because people were hesitant to use MSA, it was postponed. MS 365 Basic is $2 per month, if it would be something like that, it would be acceptable.
I don't know what is wrong with these times we are living in and the direction things are headed. Claus Scwabb and the WEF is going to get right, you will own nothing and be happy about it. Games and media going digital and subscription based and now the OS/Windows is going to be too. This development are horrendous and I don't like it one bit. And LTSC as a subscription, yeah thats funny. Oh we are terribly sorry your mom died at the hospital because the critical machines that held her on life support were running LTSC Windows 12 and they just forgot to pay the subscription. Sorry about that....
I don't care any of the payment models so long the OS's are supported for long time. The new policy of reduced support from 10 years to 5 years give me more bonkers than the payment models. And yea, I do agree that this was in the works since 10 came around. One more reason to stick to 8.1 or 7
who cares? windows post w7 is insecure, unstable, and full of spyware. and the [ paying] customer has to jump through burning hoops to get it halfway productive. long story short; it is EOL ! my opinion; everything beyond my hdd is beyond my control.i would not touch the cloud with a bargepole. and yes; it is inconvenient to install a new os. you get backup troubles, and you get learning curve troubles.
I would have gladly stayed with Windows 8.1 Embedded Industrial Enterprise if it wasn't for emulator projects, software, driver vendors etc. gradually stopping support for older OS. Sure Windows 10 and it's constant updates have been very annoying but at least the LTSB/LTSC versions have been tolerable and bearable. As long as my systems support LTSC versions and the software and emulators I use works I will continue to use newer versions. But cloud based and subscription based software that requires you to be online all the time is where I draw the line. That day I will never succumb to such blatant bullcrap. I'm running Linux on one media machine at home and if Windows is beyond salvation in the future I will switch to Linux entirely.
World is way bigger than Western Countries. Numbers are huge in lower income countries. Tougher they make it for those folks to access Windows, more and more new comers will start to use Linux, being the only alternative. I doubt if MS will hit the axe in their own foot. Lower than user base, less incentive businesses has to invest in a tool for which they will have to retrain their incoming work force. MS dominates in every business which has nothing to do with IT is only because of the work force is comfortable with Windows environment. Once again, this is across the world, not counting just the western nations with "Apple". If MS goes ahead with this, Subscription ONLY, it will be suicidal for them in long term.
It seems that MS has decided it for me. I was like, I will buy MS 365 and MS is like: Nuh! If the service works the same way as the subscription, I am sort of glad I did not buy it. I am not moving for it, lol. EDIT: I contacted MS Support and they could not help me. Sure, I will call the support to pay $2 per minute to solve an issue how to buy an account for $2 per month. I buy everything online, even groceries, but MS has to be special.
