What is going to happen when the free upgrade to Windows 10 ends? If someone tries to upgrade will it fail or not allow them to even try?
For people who have already upgraded nothing new (so they claim). You'll still be able to do a fresh install if needed (so they claim). For people who didn't take advantage of the free upgrade offer. Windows 10 will still install, but it will not be activated. Within 30 days you'll need to activate or your copy will go into a limited mode.
lol So if the claims are wrong, MS and their BILLION devices will stop functioning properly and go into a BUY ME state? lmao Free upgrade is forever, no claims necessary
I choose to remain skeptical of M$ or any multi-billion dollar company offering a free lunch. I also choose to remain skeptical on it being completely without error in the future.
Really does not matter as all motherboards will die sooner or later, then you pay unless you lie to MS very well, have 10 kids, single dad, disabled, blind, can't get a date, have hemorrhoids really bad, are way behind on ex wife's (5 of them) alimony.
maybe i buy same mobo and copy mobo serial, MAC and uuid to it ?? wonder if that would work if same cpu. hmm
No need to worry about the deadline. Download Win-10 Enterprise now or later, it doesn't matter. Activate it with KMS and turn off Windows Updates. Personally I like the version Nova-s produced for activation. Get a copy of O&O Shut-up and run it with the default settings.
Sorry to appear stupid, but you have confused me. Other members have helped me, and I understand the situation to be: If your machine had DAZ Loader and Windows 7, it was OK to install 10 (I have the DVD from Microsoft), and it will activate automatically on-line. It creates a fingerprint of your machine. You can then even delete 10, and reinstall 10 on-line, and it will activate, provided the machine fingerprint is the same. I was reinstalling 7 each time and then 10 (no need for 7 first) .I have now started with 10 on the fingerprinted machine on-line, and was activated automatically. Just SLMGR /DLV from Command prompt as Administrator will confirm status. Is this going to change soon ? I thought once the fingerprint was taken it would work permanently on that machine.
Just before the deadline passes, Microsoft will extend it for another six months. Their reason will be demand has been so high, they want to make sure everybody gets a chance to get it and not be cut off by an arbitrary deadline that didn't allow enough time.
No, it won't change and everything you say is correct. Once your Win-7 was activated with Daz Loader, and upgraded to Win-10 your machine is good for the life of the motherboard. But Enterprise version is different. It's a VL version and isn't meant for retail, only large companies. It's activated differently than the Win-7 --> Win-10 retail versions. Now here's the big IF, and I'm not 100% sure about it so maybe one of the more knowledgeable members can clarify this. The computer I installed Enterprise on had been previously upgraded from Win-7 --> Win-10 through the process you described and that means MS has my Hardware ID. The question would be, does the Enterprise version use that Hardware ID or not? I don't think it does, which is why it shouldn't matter when you install it. .
