To me Samsung and HTC are the leaders atm. And Android is the best OS since it's open source. I had Sony Ericsson as well, but IMHO they have made major faults at development. The biggest rip-off are Iphones...never would buy one.
To me the company with the best value model phones are Nokia and then you have HTC with the best all round brand. The only problem I've seen with HTC is that they are every fragile, Ericsson beats them in this area.
HTC all the way. Did you know they used to make handsets for Nokia ? Android OS is simply fantastic and as Yen said , Open source. Also HTC are the only manufacturer at the moment making these kind of handsets with unlocked bootloader's. A must for those of us that love to mess about with our gadgets !
I have used iPhone, Nokia and recently HP iPAQ. Wost of them all was HP iPAQ;Windows mobile 6.1 and 6.5 sucks. Although HTC manufactured but what a piece of crap. The problem with iPhones is, you gotta buckle up every few months to jailbreak and then unlock them though Apple App store has some best apps. Nokia's are sturdy devices, nice battery life and the first non-Windows Mobile OS supporting tons of apps. So far I had best experience with Nokia's. Samsung has the best of devices if they merely increase the build quality like HTC. Best Android devices are HTC having only one problem, the limited ROM size. Like It's hard to update HTC Desire to 2.3.4 firmware because of 512 MB rom.
100% I am for Blackberry by RIM (the absolute BEST Blackberry was the Blackberry Tour 9630)....BUT....I currently own an HTC Evo 4G and I say it is tie with my old Blackberry. Thing is, what the HTC has over my Blackberry--LARGE touchscreen. I can watch AMAZING movies in High Def. The camera was much better with control and taking pictures on the Blackberry Tour, but the HTC Evo has a higher megapix res....the apps are great on both phones. I have gotten quite used to my HTC apps, and am starting to notice apps that are for iphone and HTC but not for Blackberry The Blackberry messenger is an amazing feature IF you have enough other friends with a Blackberry that can use it as well. for the record--I am ANTI-IPHONE!
Some personal thoughts.... IPhone, Windows7 mobile or Android. It isn't just a matter of the product it's a matter of freedom. It seems that most people are not aware what they wreak when buying an IPhone or a M$ product. If you do you are supporting, monopoly, restrictions and dictatorship. I wonder that an US company like google is different, I wonder that an US company at all can be different. If you buy an IPhone for example, you are a victim of the marketing politics of Apple. They have a product, the IPhone4. Its design is cool, no question. The apps are cool, no question. Now the trap snaps shut. They got you and they will milk you like a cow. Their clever system makes you addictive. Your friends have an Iphone as well. These fact will strengthen your decision to have bought the IPhone. You are now along with the cool artificial society. Invented by Apple... in fact a bunch of their victims. It is not cool to have an IPhone. It is not cool to became ripped-off. Apple makes you addictive and restricts you. You have to stay at Apple, you have to use their products, you cannot modify them. They don't respect your privacy. Apple doesn't recoginze you as a human, they recognize you as a vessel with money in it to be emptied. Much different is Android. It is open source. The phones are much cheaper and perform a lot better than the IPhone 4. I am now a part of the Android community and I had a lot of questions. There are a lot of friendly members, sharing all knowledge, it's just like MDL. I have learned to decompile an Android kernel, the tools are all for free, also the code is open source. I feel very comfortable there. As comfortable as I feel here at MDL. There is no arrogant and niggling behavior like the apple commumity has. There is no 'I am the big boss and you are nothing without the IPhone'. It seems some don't know anymore what real freedom means and so they are feeding the imperialistic companies, companies like Apple and M$.
