    Hi.

    I've recently understood what SFVs are for, but I can't figure out what ESDs are for yet.
    I know that ESDs are compressed files. I think I read somewhere that they save ~30% compared to WIMs.
    I know there's a script made by abbodi1406 to decrypt ESDs and end up with an ISO.
    What I don't understand is what would be the difference between downloading an ISO and downloading an ESD to then convert it into an ISO.
    Is there any advantage at all if what I ultimately want is an ISO?
    I'm thinking there should be some perks in that, but I can't see them... Otherwise, why would there be a separate thread, right?
    Could someone clarify that for me?

    ESDs are used by WU, MCT and the upgrade assistant, they download the ESD and use it for ISO creation or directly upgrade the system.

    install.esd is not really the same as a ESD.
    Yes, ESD > ISO
    ESD are smaller to download.
    With ESD>ISO you can create multi-arch iso's, like the MCT can or by an alternative way*.
    You will end up with a locally created ISO, almost the same as the consumer or business MVS iso, but with less sku's available.

    *
    Code:
    ============================================================================
    Detected 2 similar ESD files: (x64/x86) / Build: 18362 / Lang: en-US
    create a multi-architecture ISO for both?
    ============================================================================

    0 - No, continue for prompt to process one file only

    1 - ISO with 2 separate install.esd (same as MediaCreationTool)
    2 - ISO with 2 separate install.wim              (similar to 1, bigger size)
    3 - ISO with 1 combined install.wim                             (Custom AIO)
    ============================================================================

    Understood.
    When you say "locally", that means that it wouldn't be a "genuine" ISO, like one downloaded from Techbench or UUP dump, right? Or am I mixing stuff?

    No, the ISO won't be the same as the next one, but the ESD is published centralized and those can be verified.

    May be dumb but I couldn't finish making the ISO with the aria2 tool and now I'm stuck with a MountUUP folder that I cannot delete by the usual means. Any idea what to do? It's quite large at 10+GB also.

    Run this in an elevated cmd:
    Code:
    dism /cleanup-wim
    After it ran successfully, you should be able to delete the mount folder.

    Please the local gurus if they would simply give the rookie some idea where to download the 1909 rtm, either as an update or as an iso. Thank you.

    Exactly what it says, a pre-release ESD.

    I download this : 18363.356.190918-2052.19h2_release_svc_refresh_clientbusiness_vol_x64fre_it-it_db373b2e69f10f041889bd619e7356430110fb71
    I copy file in the folder esd-decrypter-wimlib-52. i launch cmd file named decrypter as administrator and i have this error:
    ==== ERROR ====
    ESD file is damaged, blocked or not found.

    I also tried the cmd file into the folder decrypt-multi-release_v180925

    I use this guide https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/windows-10-esd-repository.59082/page-77#post-1380516
    Thanks

    If I am not retarded enough, from what I can understand here, you are saying that there won't be 1909 ISO as they are doing it in the usual way? I know I can create ISOs from the pre-release ESD or UUP or use the Insider builds, but asking as average Joe, it would be the same if I clean install the updated 1903 September ISO from Microsoft and then I would get 1909 as cumulative update? I prefer to stay with Retail Release ring instead of going into those Preview and Slow rings.

    I want to install windows 10 again and I prefer it will be 1909.

    He doesn't like updates but features... this time the feature is in the update...

    We're on a tech site, seems the tech has left and is replaced by a MSFT release channel.

    Check the integrity of the ESD by SHA-1.
    Check if the region block is unchecked (file is downloaded on another pc...).
