Thanks Vanelle. It did not work either. I use a Windows 7 x86 VM for extracting ISOs. I uninstalled previous version of VC++ 2015-2019 and installed the latest one I downloaded from the link you provided. After setup, I restarted the VM, launched svfx 3.82, but had the same error. I have 21GB of free space on disk, good enough, right? I then tried on another VM, this time it's Win10 21H1 x64. It worked as expected this time. Never had a problem on my W7 x86 with svfx, until today.
Works perfect Win 7 x64 Spoiler Also tried with iso, svf and svfx spread out in different locations including white space in path, still good Then on Win 7 x86 - big trouble Spoiler
Yes. Here is SmartVersion Gui from @gvollant Win 7 x86: A -192 compressed svf works perfect A -522 compressed svf is total failure Again - if i do this on a Win 7 x64 computer all svf files works. Spoiler
The 522 mode use very large dictionary, so I'm not surprised it need 64 bits. 552 use large dictionnary, but less. probably compatible with 32 bits. Pehaps not better than 192
Only we could pay more attention to your inputs , I think we can switch from probably to mandatory. Here is my thoughts: First, thank you so much @gvollant for making SmartVersion, it is a true jewel in category useful tools. Second, if compression level has reached the boundaries for what 32 bits OS can handle, it's quite alright. Why? In a test I could shave of additional ~ 40 MB of a svf file from @GezoeSloog (from -192 to -522) Now that isn't much right, well imagine a complete repo with 150 svf files: 40 MB*150=6000 MB/6 GB. In theory. Give and take but if reduced size is significant, it cant justify x86 compatibility any longer. Edit: I could possibly express my thoughts more clearly so: My second thought was meant for the community, how svf repos are distributed today and what should be expected in terms of making them smaller.
@GezoeSloog: First of all - great work as always, and many thanks to you for doing this every single month. However, I've noticed one small thing: I think you accidently uploaded the wrong checksum files for client and server version of 1809_17763/1935_may_2021/. The checksums are for the april files... May I ask you to upload the right ones? Anyway, I hope you keep on doing this great work, and once again - Thanks a lot.
Thanks again to GezoeSloog & LostED for their uploads, much appreciated @mdl052020 Once LostEd has finished uploads, he'll remove the ...uploading... part
