In my case, it's only the Windows Defender definition updates that repeatedly show up. They actually do get installed the first time but continue to show up in wumt until I hide them. Quite strange..
It only happens with Windows Defender definition updates sometimes. Maybe the culprit is that I disabled defender via GPO?
Same here. As of today, updates for Microsoft Defender definitions work properly again in Minitool. They no longer show as "pending install" after the updates have actually been installed. The troubles started on 7/14 and resolved today on both of my Win 10 22H2 machines. Don't know who or what fixed it by I didn't change anything myself.
I've been using Windows Update MiniTool without problems for about 6 months on my Windows 11 (Home) laptop. Yesterday I opened it to check for updates. The "Windows Update" category showed several updates to be installed ... this is OK. And the "Update History" category showed the updates is typically showed ... this is also OK. But the "Installed" and "Hidden" categories were empty! There should have been a whole bunch of updates within "Installed" ... and about 10 or 11 updates within "Hidden" (mostly drivers). How can I fix this so that Windows Update MiniTool will see the correct information? Without this information I can no longer unhide and install a hidden update, nor can I uninstall an installed update.
I went into Windows Update and it showed two drivers waiting to be downloaded and installed (these weren't found by wumt). So I had Windows Update download and install them. And for some reason, that cleared the entire problem. When I went back into wumt and clicked to have it scan for updates, it now shows everything back to normal.
I'm running the latest version of wumt on Windows 11 Home laptop. Was working fine but then ran into a problem. When I open wumt that little pop-up appears telling me "reboot or cancel." But there's no Windows update actually waiting for a reboot. I went into the "regular" Windows Update settings screen and checked over there ... and there's nothing pending a reboot. I rebooted anyway (more than once), yet the problem remains. I scanned for updates and found a pair of Intel updates that I want to download and install. But wumt won't let me do that until this matter is resolved ... the "reboot or cancel" pop-up appears when I click the button to download & install. I don't see a way out of this. Windows Update isn't waiting for a reboot, and I don't see any updates sitting out there in wumt that could be waiting to reboot ... but wumt thinks there is, so I'm stuck! Does anyone know what wumt is looking at to give it this false impression that a reboot is needed? Thanks!!!! bob
This is a Windows issue, not wumt specific. You have to resolve the Windows issue first. Likely stuck somewhere in "pending restart". Check the Setup Event Log for clues. If it gets too complicated, you might have to do a repair of Windows by reinstalling the same on top. Edit: I read an older post where you mentioned hidden updates. In my view it is bad practice to hide any updates. To resolve this, the first thing to try is to stop the Windows Update service and delete the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. Then scan again with wumt.
I agree that this is likely an issue within Windows update itself. Regarding hidden updates, these are all sound driver updates (some of which had previously been installed and given me sound problems). Regarding Software Distribution, I already cleaned that out with no effect. Regarding repair, I don't have a Windows install disk (the laptop came with everything already installed and I had to uninstall lots of bloatware after I first got it). Regarding checking the Setup Event Log, I'll do that when I can (the laptop is the one my wife uses so I have to work around her schedule). Thank you so much for your suggestions! bob
Setup event log showed nothing of interest. I then ran "DISM" and "sfc /scannow" and 6 repairs were made ... but (oddly) all were shortcuts in the Windows Accessories start menu folder with repairs coming from the Windows Store for items like Notepad, Character Map, Windows Media Player, etc. So nothing of any interest there either...
You You don't need an original installation disk with applications. I think if you get a Windows image at the same level of patching or higher than the one you currently have and install on top it should work. Obviously there is nothing guaranteed and you should do a full backup first if you are not confident that it will work or are able to repair ANY issue. The Windows image can be obtained either directly from Microsoft using Media Creation tool or check this forum for uupdump threads if you are not familiar with this unofficial but reliable tool.
After the various changes that were made (and described here) the problem persisted. So I left it alone for a couple of days. When I tried it again this morning ... IT WORKED!
I have Windows 10 and I have different updates in Offline mode (only KB890830) and Windows update (3 updates, 3 critical updates, KB890830 and KB5031356). Would anybody please help? Thank you
The only thing stopping me from using WUMT is the random reboot warnings. Install a chipset, reboot, start the app, reboot first, you have not used toilet tissue..... you damn right you gotta reboot... Highly annoying.
1. Open WUMT and set Automatic Updates to Notification Mode or Disabled , one of those options will turn on Auto Update. 2. wsusscn2.cab is only for offline update Isn't this the case when categorical judgments are a sign of limited intelligence? Merry Christmas to you all.
Today i have download, the latest version of Windows Update MiniTool, found on the first post. When i run on Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 (32 bit) does not work when i run the program, and show this error: wumt_x86.exe is not a valid Win32 application. How i can solve this problem? Thanks in advance!
