Thanks, can't seem to get it work though:
Plug power in while holding 'end' key, battery light red as described, then release end key.
Laptop fires up with leds on and fan spinning full speed but nothing else happens (does not turn off, it just keeps going). Have tried with bios on Dell D-Bay floppy (reads in windows as USB Floppy but I guess the bios might not see it as such) and 2 different USB sticks with no change.

Am I missing something or is the board possibly buggered?

    Hi All,
I have a Dell Dimension C521 that I accidently corrupted the system's bios while attempting to extract the bin, rom, hdr file from the .exe installer (windows). I had hoped to perform a slic 2.1 mod on it but that hasn't gone very well. The system will no longer post but I have installed a floppy drive and it attempts to access it. From my several hours of searching I'm pretty sure this system uses an Award bios. I found a old post by "shakeyplace" stating that it did and
"Universal Bios Backup Tool Kit v2.0" also indicated it was an Award bios before I killed the system. Any help extracting the needed rom and recovering this system would be greatly appreciated. Please be detailed in any instructions as I really don't want to botch this up any further.

Sorry, message count too low to post proper links.

PS. Just found the slick modded bios in the third post of the "Dell - Phoenix Manual Mod Thread". A post by "shakeyplace". If I can get help recovering the system the mod is already taken care of.

Just to update on my my Dell Latitude D600 as I managed to to recover the bios by doing the following:

    1) Wrote HDR file from latest bios (A16)
    2) Looked up HDR string in hex.
    3) Renamed HDR file to strings 'EBON123. HDR' & 'BON1234.HDR'
    4) Used Dell Floppy drive installed in the D-Bay rather than USB.
    5) Power applied while holding 'end' key, release, then let it run.
    6) Using 'BON1234.HDR' works.

Thanks for the great info on how to do this

    Hello I have a Del Inspiron M5110.
I've done everything according to instructions from the first post, but with a point
"3. Open xxxxxx.bin by Winhex, Ctrl + F search" hdr ", F3 search for the next, it's easy to find the string with???? HDR.????? HDC.????? BIN "
    I have a problem.
There is nothing like the file name.
    The firmware file - downloads.dell.com/bios/M5110A03.ЕХЕ
And what key combination to start the firmware.
    Thank you.

The EFI Recovery filename is "M5110.hdr". You'll have to search on how to recover a Dell EFI...might be the same HDR recovery method.

I need help with Dell 1521 BIOS, I tried all the steps and the problem remains the same. Secure the END button, plugo energy, released the button the light turns red and then purple fans spin the stick flashes about 4 times and then nothing. What can be? Thank you all and excuse my English.

seems hardware fault then. mine does same but stays on longer and recovers. check ram sticks. or the nvidia issue that needs reflow. (clean heat sink of dust A LOT)
    use 1 file 1521A06.hdr

It's weird to be a hardware problem because before my brother update the BIOS everything worked perfectly, the problem was that he turned off the laptop before the end of the process. I'll try other methods or buy another motherboard if necessary. Thanks for the help.
