Guys there is no current way to get a 2.1 SLIC in 99% of Dell computers with 2.0 SLIC (machines that came with Vista).

If you read the thread, some people are working on it, but there are technical limitations currently preventing replacing SLIC 2.0 with 2.1 for now.

I am as anxious as anyone--especially now that an OEMSLP key is available, but those of us with Dells with 2.0 SLIC are stuck for now (and maybe forever).

You will have to use soft mod.

I am also one of the 99% losers. My studio1555 doesn't feature SLIC 2.1. The commandline option of -writeromfile -writehdrfile doesn't work.

Any suggestions how to go about for a real hardware mod?

This is all very interesting but way over my head. The one question I have from reading all this is:

Why are Dell so proud of their crappy machines, that they've gone to such extremes to prevent reverse engineering? :)

Anyway, keep up the great work guys! I too have a few dell machines I'd like to mod whenever it's possible.

The best hope for Dell owners is that your product at some point is sold w/ Windows 7. In other words if the M1330 is discontinued as planned before Win7 comes out, then we won't ever see a 2.1 Bios for the M1330.

You're wrong, I buy XPS 1340 with vista about 6 month ago , and now with the leak Dell Cert and SLP Key, I activated Win7 Ultimate. My SLIC is 2.1 (check with R-W). So just hope Dell will update BIOS soon if you still have 2.0 SLIC.
