Ok, it just occured to me that I have PowerNow defined for up to 4 CPU's in the BIOS'es (CPU0...CPU3). I'll try to make one with just CPU0 & CPU1 defined. You'll have to test it to see if both CPU's are scaling, since I'm not sure if it'll be CPU0+CPU1 or CPU0+CPU2. LJ - should go back to the default PLL=2usec to establish a baseline first?
So far so good been running now since about 9:00 this morning. I will go back on the next crash, which may not be long now I said it's still running.lol LJ
Here we go again, " as soon as I open my big mouth" the server fell over 15mins after my last post. I have now re flashed the pll2 bios but am unable to boot from the sata drives "No operating system" re flashed with the pll3 bios, same result. These have all been in the server before now. The bios can see the raid set and is set in th eboot order, but no boot to windows. LJ Now re flashed with PLL4 bios only way I could get the system to boot from sata raid was to force dissable all other boot options. Now running again.
Oh, I can't really help you with RAID since I never had an OS installed on a raid hdd... Maybe put windows 2008 dvd disc and go to recovery options? Even though HDDs should have nothing to do with BIOS flashing, maybe the sata controller recognises your raid set but can't see the boot sector?
Running ok now, been giving it a right beating with everest stability tests for the last hour. Thats the first time I've heard the cpu fans speed up, wow I thought the system was noisey but when they speed up, it's ear defender time. Done cpu, fpu, memory and hard drive stability tests. cpu's up to 70 deg C and at a few point the difference between cpu temp was 20 deg C, so that seems to blow out a suggestion of differing cpu temps causing the lockups. One thing I have noted is I havn't connected the management card ethernet cable?? Think I will leave it out see if that makes any difference. However this is th ebios version I had 4 days running from in the past. LJ
70 deg C?? Mine are at about 35/40 deg C according to SpeedFan! Everest used to show 70 C at AUX Sensor but that's a lie I think, try SpeedFan, you can slow down the fans and make it quiter The funny thing is, even if the server hangs, SpeedFan is still working and speeding the fans up when CPU temps rise up...
No mate, I was torture testing the server cpu, fpu etc running the cpu at 100% for about 30mins in a warm room. In the garage where the server lives the cpu's are at about 27 deg C at idle. I don't have speedfan or any other fan control app installed the cpu fans ran faster when the cpu reached about 65 deg C. I re connected the management card ethernet cable this am 8:00 ish. Nearly 24hrs and still running well, oh no did I say that.lol.
Guys - Later tonight I will try to build you a pair of BIOS'es to try with the PLL=2usec (default) and the PLL=4usec (for LJ). These will only specify that CPU0 and CPU1 have power scaling features, instead of CPU{0/1/2/3}.
LJ - 24 hrs too almost. (edit) no correction.. 29hrs! how weird? ... another coincidence, isn't it? Maybe our servers talk to each other somehow and agree when to freeze? TQH - OK, it's been working OK ^ for a while, maybe it's fixed itself like it did in March when I bought it? EDIT: Been up for 2 days already
Md, Mine failed today at about 10:00 PM just about 50 hrs running.. This seems so random, hope your still running mate. TQ, I will try anything you suggest mate.. LJ
Oh no, mine is still up but I can't believe your server failed... It's done 53 hours now... fingers crossed Try again, maybe it will eventually/hopefully stop freezing.
Guys - Let me know what you want to try. 1. Make a PowerNow BIOS with only CPU0 and CPU1 defined + PLL lock time=2usec (default). 2. Make a PowerNow BIOS with only CPU0 and CPU1 defined + PLL lock time=4usec. 3. Make a PowerNow BIOS with only CPU0 and CPU1 defined + PLL lock time=5usec or higher.
Hi, just a quick update, the server has been up for 5 days 19 hours... I will be restarting it today, hope it still works. How is your server LJ? Still getting the freezes?
TQ, Yes mate I did toggle the 2 cpu's. Yes I still have HT link speed of cpu2 200.5MHz. MD, it is still freezing mate ran for nearly 3 days. LJ
LJ - I wonder if the HT speed is part of the problem. Does your system ever go to standby or do you just hibernate or shutdown? MD - Can you check with CPU-Z also and see if either of your CPU's shows an odd HT bus speed?
