Yeah. Just upgraded to the latest driver. For some reason I was using the unsigned drivers... and Error 10. Device can not start :( Rolled back to the old driver.
I have the SI 3114 Raid card.

At least you can get something installed :p anything sata doesn't show up in the bios as a DVD drive or hard drive for me and I get that "windows can't install to that drive error".

I could install to my hdds but I think this is because of the modded driver that I am using... I made it in April/March last year when I got the server...
Can you give me the link to the driver that you are using?

These are for the SI 3112... did you use them?

Just compared the SI 3114 non-working driver with the one I have. The only difference is that mine isnt signed. Driver files itself are the same versions...

It seems that the OS does not recognise it as a compatible driver... now I remember that I had edited the inf file to make the os recognise the driver. That's all I've changed. I'm using the latest version apart from the file modification.

Going to bed now. Night :)

Josh - You've got the Opteron 280 OSPFAA6CB variant. It has a lower starting CPU voltage, but the one user who was testing it didn't have good luck with my PowerNow mod.

It's up to you though. Yours might work since it appears that you only have one CPU (total 2 cores).

When I browse for drivers in the setup, it comes up with the drive so the driver works, it is just saying I can't install the driver because of an error. Also is it normal for SATA devices to not show up in the bios? They show up in the boot section but not on the first page (ie Primary Master, Secondary Slave etc). It also seems I cannot boot from my SATA DVD drive if I plug it in - and I need that because SBS2011 is on a Dual Layer disc and the old IDE DVD drive doesn't support it :(

I do have two Opteron 280's and I have the 2 port PCI to SATA (SiL 3112a) on a riser card. Does that make a difference?

I managed to install server 2008r2 by putting in my old IDE drive, I then installed the drivers or the raid card so the drive shows up but I cannot format it to ntfs. I updated the bios for the card. The sbs2011 is one I downloaded and burned from technet.

    Please answer these questions:
    1. Which Silicon Image BIOS and version are you running on the PCI card? The RAID (aka SATA-RAID) or non-RAID (aka SATA-Link)?
    2. If you're still running the Silicon Image RAID BIOS, then you probably will have to remove the SATA DVD. Also did you go into the Silicon Image RAID BIOS and configure the hard drive?
    3. What kind of an error are you getting when you try to format the drive with NTFS?
    4. What brand & model is the IDE DVD drive you're using? Also what firmware version?

Ok, I am using the latest bios from their website and I am not sure if it is sata raid or sata link. I have given up on the sata DVD as I will just use IDE. And the error I am getting is that it simply cannot format the disk then it goes to RAW. It can format if I select exFAT. Will post versions when I get back home

    For the Silicon Image:
    - r4402.bin = SATA-RAID
    - b4402.bin = SATA-Link (i.e. non-RAID)
    - 4402.bin = Skinny RAID BIOS for embedding inside a motherboard's BIOS for built-in SATA ports that are connected to a SI 3112 controller

Hi all, have been reading this forum after purchasing a few of these Motherboards from Charles Computers on Ebay. But unfortunately cannot install Windows Server 2008 because of BSOD about ACPI.

I have installed Windows Server 2003 which works fine, but want Server 2008.

    My system is as follows.

    2U Rackable Systems Case
Arima RioWorks Motherboard, think its Rev G
    Dual Core Opteron 252 2.6GHZ 64Bit x 2
    3 x 500GB SATA II Drives in RAID 5
3ware 9500S RAID Controller as Motherboard has not got in built in.
4 GB 333MHZ Memory, 2 in each CPU Bank
    1.44mb Floppy
    DVD ROM Drive

When the system boots, it says its Bios 2.13 RE4 for Rackable - What do I need to upgrade from here.

Can anyone please do a proper new list step by step as I cannot figure it out and dont want to brick my board. Moving into new office next week and need server working for then. So all your help is much appeciated.

What is PowerNow and do I need it? also the SLIC part do I need to do that? sorry for being such a noob.

Also any ideas on what best partition sizes would be for my system, only going to be for exchange/file sharing/remote access.

    Thanks

    John

I've seen someone else report the same thing. If you go back to the v2.18 with the latest SI ROM but w/o my PowerNow mod, does CPU-Z report the CPU1 HT freq at 200MHz?

Would you like me to patch the last official v2.17 BIOS with the latest SI ROM + ACPI FACS Fix + PowerNow mod? I'm wondering if the Opteron 250 E4 is hitting a bug in the v2.18 BIOS.

    It's crazy now..
It's been hanging an hour after being booted for the last 2-3 days. I don't know what happened to it!
I went back to the non powernow bios and nothing's changed. Still hanging.
I will check the ht freq and let you know what it is. It's frozen now but the internet works.

Would you be able to add the Samsung SLIC 2.1 to the patched bios 2.17 too if you make one (and PM me it). You would save me from seeing millions of activation errors (it took me over an hour to get it sorted last time). It's a lot of playing around and I don't have apps needed for patching it any more...
    Thanks :)

Edit: On the non powernow bios CPU0 HT 600MHz, CPU1 HT 200MHz. Nothing's changed.
I don't know whether or not I mentioned it before, but I keep getting event 47 in the system log quite a lot:
Ram memory = 2x 2GB and 4X512MB. CPUz shows that they have different Max Bandwidth values but I don't think that's the problem. Could it be?

It sure sounds like your memory is either mis-configured (wrong speed or voltage is too low/high) or some chip(s) are bad. Is all your RAM identical? i.e. DDR-400 or DDR-333
If not, then you need to force it to the lower speed somehow. Or re-arrange your memory sticks so that the slower speed is seen first.

In order to patch the BIOS safely for a SLIC mod, I'd first need an updated RW-Everything report against the base BIOS. So...if I made the mod, you or the other user would have to flash the patched 2.17 BIOS first and generate the RW-Everything report for me. Do you have a spare hard drive that you could load a temporary copy of Windows?

Update: First post is updated with some v2.17 BIOS'es to test.
