Ok. Atm there has been no memory errors so far and it has not frozen for the last 10 hours... :)

Hope the ram arrives tomorrow :p

BTW. You are from the US aren't you? :D
I'm going to bed now. It's too late.:bye:

I'm currently using the SATAraid 5 driver instead of the SATAlink one and I have no raid set up... is this going to have any impact on the server's performace?

EDIT: Still up (1 day and 4 hours) (20:00 GMT), it even survived doing a hard 25GB compression job :)

I have no idea. Which SI ROM are you using? The SATA-RAID or the SATA-Link one? I'd imagine that you could update the driver at any time though.

    Fingers crossed!

I think it does not matter as long as the drives are working...
I have copied a few files and it does around 40-50 MB/s when copying on the same hdd, around 80mb/s when copying to another drive. Nothing's changed at all...
I want to buy a 3TB hdd for it but I worry it won't work with it. Do you know if this controller is capable of running a 3TB HDD?
I don't know which rom i'm running :D The one that came that was in the bios XD

I will post the BIOS later.
The new 2x2GB sticks have arrived and I installed them into bank 1 (cpu1). Now after booting the system and running it for 15 minutes I had only 1 Corrected Memory Error occuring in the event log.
I think I should install the old ones and see how many errors would I get with them. But as far as I remember there would be quite a lot. I'll wait for 2-3 hours to see if it freezes, if it does I will move the new ram sticks to bank 0.
May all these memory errors be caused because of the differet HT link speed?
Also the new RAM sticks are 133Mhz and 166MHz while the other 2X2GB are 166Mhz and 200Mhz. I guess they all work at 166MHz now... CPUz says so too.

Yes, you should put your slowest memory in bank0. That'll prevent the BIOS from setting the memory speed too high...let's just say that's a BIOS bug/feature.

Basically what's happening is the DDR400 is getting detected and the BIOS is setting the entire system to use 200MHz...this obviously can cause problems with the DDR333 you just bought.

Currently there has been no memory errors so far apart from that one I reported in the morning. CPUz Dram frequency is reported as 166MHz. The server has not frozen yet :)
Here is a screenshot of CPUz' Memory TabPage.

Sorry guys that I haven't been on for a while... I hate exams :(

Anyway, my SiL3112a is a SATAraid bios and I have no idea how to flash its bios as I am a complete noob to that :p

Also since CharlesComputers has removed all his listings, is there anywhere else that sells the servers? And where can I find the server ram but in 2gb sticks since my has 8x1gb but 16gb would be nice. Also can you get quadcore processors for Socket 940's? because two of them would be awesome. My hard drive still can't format or be used so at moment its running off an 80gb ide thats like 5 years old.

@mateuszd are you using a downloaded/cracked version of Exchange 2010? I downloaded the trial but its saying only have 120 days and I need to apply hotfixes and shizz but the linked pages are non-existent... but thats a bit off topic :D

    Thanks guys, Josh

OK, the bios has been updated and it now says SATAlink but it has no option to enter its bios. Still getting the same old error,'Windows cannot format this disk'. I'm starting to give up on the entire project o_O

What hard drive are you trying to install? I recently had problems hooking up a Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB to my Silicon Image SiI3512 PCI card. You might need to force the drive into SATA150 mode, but I haven't tried that myself yet.

It's a Seagate 500gb OEM, the cheap one and it came with the machine.

Josh - When the machine boots up and you see the Silicon Image SATA-Link BIOS boot up, does it recognize the Seagate drive and print the device info for it? If so, then the card should be able to work with the drive ok. Also the SATA-Link BIOS'es don't typically have anything to setup, compared to the SATA-RAID BIOS'es.

Since you say that the hard drive came with the machine, I have the suspicion that the drive was once used as part of a RAID array. What you need to probably do is get the Seagate tools and zero the entire drive.

It recognises the drive and when I put the drive in my main machine I was able to format and use it fine. Also the server and everything in it is brand new.

I remember in my case I had to copy some entries in the INF file but I don't remember what exactly :(
I had the same problem. Drivers would install but show no disks. The drivers I modified for myself (ones I posted for you) are the ones which worked in my case...
Can you connect the HDD over ATA (using a £5 SATAtoATA adaptor from ebay) and install the OS on it? Then install the satalink driver and then move the HDD over to your 3112 controller (to see if it boots).
This is what I've done but reversed. I installed the OS when the HDD was connected over SATA and the moved it to ATA (using the adaptor) and it works.
Still using it that way so I have 1 sata slot more, IDE is almost equal to SATA 1 (150MB/s) so I thought it was not gonna make any difference in speed.

Yeh I might just get one of them cables. I already bought the moles to sata so... I downloaded seatools and it said that the drive is fine, but half of the tests fail as does trying to format from the program. I have just took apart my 500gb maxtor hard drive which has the same drive but only the generation before. Also I tried updating firmware on the drive but still doesn't work. I may even send the card back to Charles computers as it does seem to be faulty.

Try the IDEtoSATA method first. You can also install Windows from another computer by applying a Windows (wim) image directly to the HDD (then you will need to add the driver for the SATA controller). This method would either work or give you a blue screen if the driver does not work :/
