Do what I have done and put the server in a shed or garage outside, the cpu temps on mine are about 20 to 30 degrees
Hi All. Quick report. The (VIS, Very Irritating Server) froze yesterday but it has been up for 1 day after I have done the following: - Connected the HDD back to the SATA controller - Enforced DDR333 in BIOS - Hit the server a few times - Shut down SpeedFan Hope it lasts longer than 2-3 days. XD The server may be referred to as VIS in the guide if I actually make it
Still having problems with the sil3112a, I am getting insanely frustrated and if anyone would like to help me out I would happily key someone have access via teamviewer or logmein to help me out. It would be gratefully appreciated!!
What problems? Was it the lack of a working driver? I'm happy to try helping using the native RDP protocol
to Joshthewacko found this some site from silicom image, can't post the link, I'm to new here just coppy and pasted If your system BIOS is able to find your SATA drive during boot but you cannot find the drive under “My Computer” under Windows, it is likely that the hard drive has not been partitioned. If this is a brand new hard drive this is almost always the case. To create a partition, you must find the Disk Management utility under Windows. This is located in different areas depending on your version of Windows, but for Windows XP you can find it as follows: * Click on the START button and select the Control Panel * Click on Performance and Maintenance * Click on Administrative Tools at the bottom * Double click on the Computer Management icon * On the left side, expand the Storage category and click on the Disk Management icon From the Disk Management utility, you can create, change or delete partitions. Please be careful when using this utility since you can accidentally delete data. We recommend that you read any available documentation on this utility from Microsoft if you are not experienced with creating or changing hard drive partitions.
I have both MSN and Skype I've been seeing memory errors since yesterday evening. Well, I don't care. I will just wait till it freezes...
Josh, IIRC, the problem you're having is that the Windows installer isnt' recognizing your hard drive(s)? Just to refresh my memory, you already updated the Silicon Image PCI card's BIOS right? Couple of questions: 1. Does the Silicon Image BIOS detect the drive(s) on bootup? 2. Are you running the SATA-RAID or the SATA-Link BIOS? If RAID, have you initialized the RAID array? FWIW, I recently had a problem migrating a pair of disks from a 3ware 8000-series card to a 9500S card. I initially had 2 drives setup for RAID-0 but Windows wouldn't see the drive. I remade it was a RAID-1 and it saw it no problem. Of course I'm having AGP problems, but that's a separate issue.
Yes, it (used) to detect the drives at bootup, and it was fully updated using the latest sata-link bios but now when it turns on it displays an error that it is malfunctioning. I contacted charles computers and they said if I send it back then they would send me a replacement. Edit: server 2008 r2 was recognising the drive and it was saying everything was ok, butnit wouldn't format it to NTFS only exFAT. I googled it and I could find a big fat nothing
Tqhoang, First of all thank you for the nice work you did , your bios fixes got server up and running. Still have one mb laying around like to set it up as my workstation. It 's got to Opteron 270 on it. Could you find the time to produce a bios fix for them. AMD opteron 270 OSA270FAA6CB MB hadama rev G 16 gig ram You still need some post whit the number for the powernow settings. I tried to run the linux live cd but no luck so far, It won't boot Greetings
Tqhoang, Thank you, I did that already, win 2008 R2 is booting without any problem. I'm under the impression that with the 2.17 bios we could still boot from usb, or am i wrong? Just take your time, I'm in no hurry. Thank you
Sorry, I still need the Linux PowerNow output. What do you mean by it won't boot? The CD/DVD isn't booting from the BIOS or it's locking up after it starts booting? Reason I need the Linux PowerNow output is because there are 4 variants of the Opteron 270 (OSA,OST,OSP,OSK) and each use different voltages and only the retail OSA are specified in the AMD docs.
Tqhoang Linux live cd hangs a while after booting. Will try again later. By the look of the serial i think they are of the OSA kind. Let you know the linux powernow thing , will try a few versions.
I had the drive formatted ready for NTFS so it definitely works as it used to be part of my raid drives and it was formatted after I took it out. Another thing I saw was that windows kept saying the structure (or something) was corrupt and I needed to run chkdsk. I tried that still to no avail. I also tried the seatools disk manager but only could run certain tests but still no formats Edit: the raid is not in the server I meant it was in one of my desktops.
