advice for which bios please hi all, i got four of these beauties! i checked the MoBo and it looks like i got RevG - the number on the MoBo stickers says: "40 CM B0000 G200" i'd very much like to be able to use much larger HDs in these plus i'l like to be able to control the power to the fans. I'm in a well cooled office but it's very small so noise levels are a real issue. all my boxes run Linux. can someone please advise which is the best BIOS to download? many thanks zac
The bios that Tqhoang suggested works very well, you shouldn't have any problems. Regarding the fan speeds, if you have them in the 2U cases, they are going to be noisy, but the fan speeds will fluctuate as heat increases/decreases from cpu usage. I have one of my boards installed in a modded mid tower ATX with Zalman 7700 coolers running real quiet. I can't see much alternative with those screamers in the 2U cases. Good Luck.
yeah they really are screamers! i actually replaced all the CPU blowers and the exhaust fans for much quieter ones which has made a big difference i still feel there is room for improvement. i recently had a conversation with a guy from a company that specialise in rackable (sgi) systems. he explained why those fans are so powerful and noisy. the cases are designed to sit back to back in the rack. the rack then has a central vertical exhaust column which sucks all the heat out through the top of the rack so essentially they can be self cooling. sounded like clever stuff, but no good to me as i have a mixed rack of all shapes and sizes. right, think i'll give this a go then. if i choose the software raid version, will it upset my already setup raid? thanks zac
Are you using the onboard Silicon Image SATA ports for the RAID? It *should* be ok...but I can't guarantee it. Only Silicon Image would know if they changed something with their RAID software that would make things not backwards compatible. But if you're using a PCI[-X] RAID controller, like a 3ware card, then you should not be affected.
Hello Friends, i have one big problem. I need the following file because windows did´t find my Raid Controller. HDAMA-G BIOS v2.18B + Silicon Image 3114 ROM v5.5.0.0 + ACPI DSDT PowerNow for Opteron 270 OSA270FAA6CB HDAMAG_218B_SATARAID5500_DSDT_OPTERON270.zip Please Help. :-( Pleaseeeeeee Thank you Dilbar
Hellllpppp Hello tqhoang, Thanls for your upload. I have one Problem more. My hardware: sil 3114 SATARAID onborad 5.0.63 HDAMA 2.18b.RF4 for Rackable and i have 4 * 2 TB HDD It is unfortunately not recognized by the operating system hard drive with 2 tb. Whenever I want to make a BIOS update is not possible because he says that the data do not match. This is the dos command: phlash16 HDMAG218B_SI5403.ROM /mode=3 /c /i /pn /s /v I know not what shall I do ... I only wish that he leads by a bios update and then my hard drives are found. I found a BIOS update on the internet. This is old but worked the upate. This is the dos command: phlash16 /mode=3 /c /bbl /x 218b.rf4 Can someone help me? Tell me what to do???!!! Please Thanks Dilbar
DOS does not support long filenames...only supports 8.3 formatted ones. Simply rename the BIOS file to something short like BIOS.ROM, then re-run your flash command. BTW, you only want to use the "/bbl" option the first time you flash to the v2.18B BIOS. Reason is that it upgrades the boot block and you only want to chance that once. I'd recommend you flash the BIOS like this: phlash16 BIOS.ROM /mode=3 /c /cs /pn /s /v /x
:-( it will not work!! Please help Hello tqhoang, I've tried the settings which I have given you of the update carried out. Unfortunately I always get an error message here. How should I proceed further. I am sending you to the screenshots and error message. It would be great if you could help me. Thanks Dilbar View attachment 10569 View attachment 10570
It appears to me that all of the links are dead - I need a bios that will let me use windows 7/vista on an HDAMA-I with dual Opteron 270. I have win2k on the machine currently and will use winphlash to update, as long as that works. prefer the satalink update as well. Please help.
It seems like the "urlisdown" website is down. Does anyone have a link to the 2.18B bootable iso. I want to make this thing work for me! Thanks!
Hi all, after a long break and the purchase of a new sil3114 card from ebay I decided I would give it another shot and getting it all to work. It still has the SATARAID bios flashed. I have gotten Win Server 2008r2 installed on a spare (but dodgy) IDE drive in it but the card doesn't seem to come up in the driver manager at all. And thinking about it now, it doesn't display a post in bios I might try putting the old 3112a card back in to see if I can get anything to come up. Oh and also, I couldn't get the 3112a card to work in another computer as well even though apparently this card 'was tried and tested' and it indeed works. And to add the the overall frustration, CharlesComputers are now selling them for like £50 cheaper with a 1tb drive and a 3ware raid card. **knocks myself out on keyboard**
I have a HDAMA-I motherboard with dual Opteron 270 processors and I am trying to run ubuntu Linux on it. I installed the 1.23 bios because it is the latest bios and you have a bookable CD image already available. However, I am having a lot of issues with booting. After installing ubuntu and trying to reboot I get a message saying there is no os found. I tried installing SUSE and it booted once then went back to saying no os found. Also I can't boot from a CD drive attached to the SATA controller even if I have it set as the first boot device. I'm not sure I have the most appropriate bios for this configuration. So before I do any more trouble shooting I want to make sure I have the right bios. What is the right bios for my configuration? Thanks.
You probably need the HDAMA-I BIOS with the SATALINK. The thing I have noticed with my HDAMB board is that the bootable CD/DVD needs to be in the drive when the machine boots. Otherwise the BIOS does not enumerate the CD/DVD drive as being a valid boot target. I'm not sure what could be your problem with the OS not found unless you have the IDE port before the SATA drives.
