Regards Tqhoang, and hope your vacation was a good one. I have had my server RevG board up and running nice and stable for about 3 months now with Server 2008R2 and your modded bios with a pair of 275 Optys. Powernow works awesome, and my modded case with the Zalman 7700's cooling the cpu's runs nice and quiet. I have recently purchased another Arima board with the dual Opteron 2214's and capable of the Quads up to 2360. While playing around with it and trying to set it up the way I would like, I seemed to have messed up the bios chip somehow. Trying to recover the program does not seem to be possible, and would like to ask your expertise/advise on how to recover the bios, if that can be done. Upon re-boot, she boots up to the hardware screen, but I cannot get into the setup to adjust the settings. Have tried to reset bios jumper-no change. Have installed new bios battery (2032)-no change. Looks to me as if bios program is completely corrupted. Question: I cannot get to the point where I can set a boot priority device (stalls at operating system not found-assume that is the bios program) so I could flash the bios with a bootable USB stick. Would your bootable cd/dvd with my appropriate bios file for the board work in this scenario? Your opinion would be valued, and Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, I'll try that when I get some spare time near the end of the week. Already inquired about the new pre-programmed chip from vendor on eBay.
Tqhoang, I would like to be able to try these BIOSes. The link seems to be unavailable at the moment. Would you mind uploading them again? I'm not going to be using a RAID. I don't even have the add-in card, only the onboard SATA ports. I'd like to be able to install Windows 7 or Windows XP. I have over 50 of these rackable computers!
Hello Tqhoang, I'm back to ask you to post your mods for the hadama rev G . Setting op two more systems . I need one for the opteron 275 and one for the 280 both with sata and powernow pls. I guess it doesn't matter to run them on a board without the sata ports? Got one with and one without. The two previous ones with opterons 250 and 275 been running smooth ever since. Thanks ahead. Koen
3Ware Card?? This has been a really great thread. I have gone over it a couple times, and still can't get this box to work with Server 2008 r2. I have 8 of these boxes ($60 each off ebay). As far as I can tell all are the same (MB rev G, (2)250 Opteron). I have the new BIOS and updated the 3ware card ROM from the 3ware site. I have installed the current Ubuntu without any problems. However, when I try to install Win Server 2008 R2, it can't see the drives, although it does load the 3ware drivers without any problems (9.3.0.8-firmware_9500s_only from 3ware). Did I miss an earlier posting about fixing this? I would love to get these working without having to purchase 8 RAID cards. EDIT: I used a driver for a newer card and it worked!!! Issue solved.
Congrats! Let me know if you're using the PowerNow or just the plain ones with the CPU's at full throttle.
Hi tqhoang, and thanks for that zip file. I have a request for the DSDT bios 1.22 for the rev I board running the 270's FAA6CB so I can use the powernow for a lower power consumption. It doesn't seem to be in your collection, and haven't come across it in the posts anywhere. No rush, just whenever you have some time, and it's appreciated. Thx.
Have you tried the HDAMA-I v1.23 BIOS? Someone said that it had a PowerNow option in the BIOS, but I don't think they ever confirmed whether it supported the ACPI PSS objects that Windows Vista-7-2008[R2] and Linux need. Could you do that for me and report back?
I had tried the 1.23 bios a few months ago when I first received this board and kept getting lockups while running Server08R2. Switched back to the 1.22 without the Powernow and it ran like a lark. I just finished trying again with the 1.23 original bios that Kawal extracted from his board and sent to you. The Powernow seems to be the issue when I have it enabled, and freezes randomly after Windoze starts. When it is disabled in the bios, Windows runs without any issues. FWIW, I have a spare set of drive trays with Server 2003R2 installed for this machine, and also tried with them. Enabled the Powernow in bios, and Windows ran very well with no freezes/lockups. But when I ran cpuz, no voltage or frequency scaling, which would indicate some sort of issue with what's in the original bios for the Powernow! Hope this helps some.
View attachment 12460 Many thanks Tqhoang for your assistance, and if you require any further info, please let me know.
Thanks...it looks like they have the ACPI PSS objects in there, but some of the values don't line up with my hand-made ones. Give me a couple of days since I need to setup a VM with all of my BIOS tools again.
@Neubie2 - Sorry it's taking so long. I got caught up in all the Black Friday & Cyber Monday stuff. I just got my Windows XP VM installed and just need to get all of my development tools installed. Hopefully I'll have something for you to test by Friday.
