Hi TQH. Just wanted to let you know I did not buy the new RAM sticks because I realised that the PSU fan goes loud sometimes (well, most of times) even though the slower RAM sticks have been taken out. The sound of it is just unbearable, I can't stand it. I'm desperate enough to take the PSU out and disconnect that fan, the temperature inside the server is the same as it was and the server now goes loud while copying tiny files (normally, the PSU would go loud very rarely, and if, it would do it for a few seconds). Can you advise me what to do? It may be the power draw which went up by a few watts after the new RAM was installed but I see no reason why the fan has to get so loud, especially as the PSU feels quite cool/cold.
You have an HDAMA-I motherboard...despite what is etched on the board. Stick with the v1.22, v1.23, or v1.26 BIOSes.
Sorry I really don't know what to try unless you get a new power supply. Any local retailers you can try and return it?
Hi tqhoang, Did you ever get around to doing FACP/DSDT mods for a 275 CPU on the v1.26 bios? Would very much appreciate it if you get a chance. Thanks!!
@DerekFlint and other HDAMA-I users Thanks for your patience...got swamped with stuff. First post is updated with a new big zip that contains the HDAMA-I v1.26 DSDT mods and also the Bootable CD. If you can please test both the HDAMA-I BIOS v1.26 for Opteron 275 and provide feedback. Even just flashing & booting up is sufficient. I did run PBE to extract all of the v1.26 DSDT modded BIOS'es and only the expected modules were updated.
@tqhoang, Thank You Very Much for taking the time to do this!! Last night I tested out a couple for you, first I flashed it using HI126L55.BAT from the bootable cd and did a system reboot, it worked fine. Since I had v1.26 on there previously, I assumed it wasn't necessary to run HDAMAI126.BAT to clear the boot block, was that a valid assumption? Then I flashed HDAMAI_126_SATALINK5500_DSDT_OPTERON275.ROM from a bootable diskette, rebooted, and that also worked fine. I immediately booted into ESXi 5.0 just to see if it would recognize PowerNow, but it didn't. I need to go in and play with ACPI bios settings to make sure I have things enabled. Thanks again!
Sure no problem...sorry it took so long...kept procrastinating. You don't really need to re-flash with the stock v1.26 just to get the bootblock updated. It's actually a risky process but that is the default params from Arima so I left it in there. I'm not sure what ESXi requires to do PowerNow. I can't even get v5.0.0 to load on my HDAMB board, although I did have v4.x on there at one time. <side_note>Woohoo 1000th post!</side_note>
Hello, I need some help with a problem, which looks very enigmatic to me. I bought a used server from ebay for my office. It's a 19" Server 2 x Dualcore Opteron / 8 GB RAM / SATA-TRAY, it has a rhapsody mainbord and a Phönix bios. ( Phoenix Server-BIOS 3 Release 6.0. HDAMA BIOS Ver. 2.13 RE 4 for Rackable) There has to be a Bios Update for the WHS installation, and this is the problem: I cant boot with DOS, DR DOS or CALVERA DOS for accomplishing the update, but the System boots Windows (but interrupts during the installation cause of the missing Bios Update). Linux is also booting. I hope anyone can help me solving the Problem, I would be really appreciated. Greets from Germany,
On a side note can anyone tell me if the Hdama revision G boards (opteron) are sata 3 (6gb) ? I have an ebayer telling me they are but I can't find any specification to say either way. THanks Danny
Danny, Sorry, but it's Highly doubtful this board does SATA III 6Gb/s. Here's a link to the manual that someone posted online ---->chris-potter.co.uk/hardware/files/HDAMA%20Rev.G%20ver.3.02.pdf Specs listed on page 5 say it has the Sil3114 SATA controller onboard, and that only runs at SATA I 1.5 Gb/s, see specs here ---->siliconimage.com/products/product.aspx?id=28
Hi, Thanks for that, I was extremely doubtful as well, especially given the age of the boards, it was even a push for it to be SATA II, let alone III. Thanks again. On another note, I'm a bit confused as to which bios to use. I know it's the opteron 280 OSP version, but not sure whether I should be using SATALINK OR SATARAID. My board days sata link on the chip, but of course it does onboard raid to.. I installed the sataraid version, then installed windows 2008 server just fine using the sata raid drivers. I ran some benchmarks and then wanted to switch back to normal non-raid sata to install w2k8 and benchmark again. However I found the system crashing on installation, but I think this is related to my sata drivers not the SATARAID bios. So, question is; surely I don't have to re-flash the bios to move from onboard sata raid to using onboard sata non-raid? HDAMAG_218B_SATARAID5500_DSDT_OPTERON280OSP.zip HDAMAG_218B_SATALINK5500_DSDT_OPTERON280OSP.zip Can anyone enlighten me here? Also if anyone knows of any decent cheapish sata hardware raid card that fits into these boxes, I would appreciate it. thanks danny
Yes, you need to flash the entire BIOS since the Silicon Image ROM is embedded inside it and not flashed to a separate flash chip...like with the PCI add-on cards. In terms of a cheap hardware RAID card, I can only recommend the 3ware PCI-X cards. Budget = 8500 model Good = 9500 model Best = 9550 model
Another question if you lot don't mind. I have W2k8 R2 installed and working fine, though I had a few issues getting it installed. First problem was that windows installation would see the raid array but not install on it; The solution was simply that I needed to put the array as the first boot device (or at least above my usb memory stick containing the sata raid drivers) in the bios. Second issue was that with 8GB of ram in the box it would not complete installation, it would get to around 97-99% then lock up. Solution; remove 6GB of ram and install windows, put ram back. My last problem is that the ethernet drivers linked to on the first page of this thread for the broadcom chip won't install in windows. I've got the netxtreme Win 2008 rx x64 version and windows won't detect them. If I force install of the drivers the ethernet ports work but seem to cause a lock up sometimes when in use. Anyone had trouble with this and can anyone supply working drivers? Thanks Danny
