What about if I give you my slic enabled bios and you just add powernow stuff into it? I really do not want to boot Windows without slic at all :/
mateuszd, I have created the RW file from a slic modded bios. Not aware of it causing me problems. ref the sata/ata could you not use the ide bus to rule out sata issues ? TQ, I am going to try the latest 10sec bios you made next. LJ
LJ - That is what I am doing, My 80GB SATA HDD is connected to the IDE using a simple SATAtoATA adapter... did I answer your question or I misunderstood it? Call me MD, it saves the effort of spelling my name I may switch the HDD back to sata to see if it starts locking up...
MD, soz mate I missunderstood when you said SATA to ATA adapter I saw that as convert SATA bus to ATA drive. I will try that mate, at the mo I have 2 sata 320G drives raid 1. After loads of problems running 1 sata drive non raid. I have a 3rd sata drive for storage, and a 4th for backup jobs. All works great as long as it stays alive. lol. Originally it would fall over when ever it felt like it. After updating the bios it has lasted longer and longer with each bios update from TQ. Originally it was hours, now it's days. Annoying thing is windows event viewer shows no clues , did you get disk errors when running with the sata drives on the sata ports ? LJ Oh by the way if you are on a dell slic I can email my bios file to you if you wish, or would there be a difference in the RW content ?
I had no disk errors when using it via SATA. I had problems though with roaming user profiles when it's share was hosted on a SATA drive. Read my previous post. Basically system worked but sata drives went unresponsive for a while and then file sharing stopped working until rebooted. After moving the share over to my ATA HDD this problem went away and had no problems with logging in since that day. I still get weird behaviour when I go into any of my SATA hdds and browse it, sometimes folders open longer than usual (or open quickly but icons appear after a few seconds). Sometimes when I click a file i need to wait about 5 seconds for its details to appear (modify date or stuff). I does not happen a lot, in fact it happens very rarely when accessing HDDs over network. Nah, sorry I have a Samsung SLIC. EDIT: I dont think the RW report touches SLIC. I think it's power stuff only.
Ok I have now flashed HDAMA-G BIOS v2.18B + SI v5.5.0.0 + Opteron 250 E4 PowerNow DSDT mod with PLL_lock_time=10usec bios and restarted the server at 10:00 Am today. Since then I have been virus scanning and copying files from drive to drive in the server. Also copying shared files to and from laptop over network. So far all perfect, lets see how long it runs.. LJ
Just 2 quick questions, what time zone are you in? How fast was it copying files from drive to drive?
I flashed bios with the same SLIC that I had before and now it's complaining about being not genuine!
I fixed it now, flashed the clean bios without slic, generated the rw file and then generated slic enabled bios. The new powernow enabled bios did not make fans quieter though but in cpuz I can see that the CPU multiplier is changing(used to be constant) and the clock speed is at 1GHz most of time. Now I will see if it freezes today.
Update, The server fell over at about 16:00 today. MD, i'm in UK LOndon timezone. The files transfered at what I would say was normal, must admit I didn't clock the speed. LJ Going to try sata/ata adapter with the same bios see what happens.
I used the rw file from a clean bios, I had problems with the rw file from the modded slic enabled one... I also realised some bios settings that I had were set to non default ones... If my server fails today I will set these back (I have taken photos of configuration screens ) I still think it's SATA related though, my computer folder froze for a minute before it listed HDDs.
I don't know, I'm not using RAID so I can use any ROM that will work, does the 5.4.0.3 detect 1TB HDD's? EDIT: Small off-topic question, what is the 3rd RJ45 port for (if you have one) on this server?
Fail... It failed like it used to do ages ago... Now trying to see if my old BIOS settings help On the default BIOS settings it detected all 6GB of installed RAM, after changing to old settings, it detects 5.94 (6082 MB) as usable... weird.
MD & LJ - Can you please answer these questions? Hardware setup: 1. Do you have RAM in both banks? Are all the sticks of RAM identical? 2. What PCI/PCI-X cards do you have installed and which slots are they in? 3. Are you using the Silicon Image 3114 SATA ports? If so, which RAID mode? BIOS setup: 4. What do you have "Use PCI Interrupt Entries in MP Table" set to? 5. What do you have IOMMU set to? If enabled, what memory size do you have enabled?
