    Out of interest I have run some disk benchmark tests I am getting 100 to 120MB/s random access, so it's not far off sata1 150MB/s.
    At least I hope the SI3114r is sata 1 and not sata2 !

    PS I have NOT used the sata/ata adapter yet

    LJ - Can you post another pic of the Advanced tab with the page scrolled down all the way?

    Also one thing I did notice was that I was testing some BIOS mods on my HDAMB and when I reflashed to my DSDT BIOS for Opteron 280's, the CMOS got cleared. I was getting lockups in Win7 32-bit almost immediately. So I examined my other box that is running Win7 64-bit + DSDT mod fine and noticed the following:

    1. Advanced->QuickBoot Mode=Disabled (perhaps something isn't configured right without a full boot?)
    2. Main->BIOS Setup Screen=Enabled
    3. Advanced->Boot Diagnostic Screen=Enabled

    The server fell over today after about 6 hrs running.
    Have been reading other forums related to duel opteron motherboards freezing and amongst the weird and wonderfull suggestions I came across a discussion on the ram voltage, where several users had increased the voltage from 2.5 to 3.0 and say their system became stable.
    My ram has a VDDSPD 2.3V to 3.6V does this suggestion have any real value ?
    Is it posible to set the VDDSPD to say 2.75 ?

    MD, 6hrs can't be coincidence surely, historically mine was the same it would run and hr or even more, but never all day.
    I don't think server 2008 will run without acpi will it ?
    I did try it without acpi with a linux distro and it still failed.
    I had read the other thread you posted and agree, with 1 cpu mine ran ok, but that defeats the object of a duel cpu board, which was why I was so interested in the bios changes from TQ.Thinking it may have been a faulty cpu I then swapped them and again it ran a couple days.
    I am sure it's not operating system related because mine has had linux, xp, windows 7 and now sbs 2008, and it falls over.
    But I can't make it happen by stress testing, it normally freezes when idle, at least as idle as a server can be.

    No mate I don't have the lcd screen, I want to get it running stable before spending anymore money on it, but I will see if I can get 1 later.

    Yh, mine was stable until the BIOS update, I should have left it as it was, but I desperately wanted to lower the power usage, that's why I needed PowerNow.
    Now it fails, I might just go back to my old bios and see if it fails on it, if it doesn't, then it's something with PowerNow.
    My server failed today at 8 but I was still able to make a phone call over it's Linux based pbx, Routing and Remote Access also works, I can use the internet even when anything else is unresponsive...
    Can you access the phantom console from the local system via the com port (my system shows only one com port installed)??

    Ok, no BIOS setting seems to really stand out. Other than maybe disabling the LAN Boot ROM (i.e. PXE) I'm using BIOS defaults.

    The only other things I could even think of trying are upgrading the Broadcom driver to the latest from Broadcom themselves. Also perhaps try to simplify the system and try to move all RAM into the primary bank...this will at least make your systems similar to my HDAMB which both CPU's access memory through only one's memory controller.

    Ok. The server froze yesterday at 8 so I restarted it and amazingly it lasted till 7 in the morning, I connected to remotr desktop with my phone and it was ok, then i turned on one of my laptops and by the time it logged me in it was frozen already.
    Now I used to have the server runnging under the balanced power setting in windows, when checked the processor speeds using cpuz the multiplier was at 12 which is the maximum. Nothing could change it under the non Powernow enabled bios. on the powernow enabled bios the multiplier drops to 5x making the cpu work at 1ghz. when i select high performance, it sticks to 12x but then the powernow feature is useless since it's not saving the power.
    I will do a few more tests, high performance mode in windows and/or disabling cpu frequency scalling. Maybe these boards dont like powernow?
    is this a built in feature or was it just added by tqhoang manually?
    LJ do you mean your server is stable now?
    TQH would it make any difference moving over ram sticks, they worked before...?

    Excuse any mistypings, i am typing it frpm a mobile phone when i am on the bus.

    MD, after changing the power/power saving in the BIOS not in windows mate. The server ran 10 or so hrs.
    After the last crash this AM I have updated the broadcom drivers, and kept the power setting the same.
    With that setting the server seems to respond faster, but cpu-z shows the cpu multiplier does scale between 5 and 12 based on cpu load.
    I have the windows power option set to balanced..

    I will update broadcom drivers now... then try power settings...
    What did you do first and what do you think worked, drivers or power settings? My power savings in BIOS are disabled.

    Which driver did you download?
    One for:
    Broadcom's NetXtreme Ethernet controllers:
    5700, 5701, 5703, 5704, 5714, 5715, 5721, 5722, 5780
    Windows Server 2008 R2 - I used this one but had to manually select the driver from the list.

    My ran from 8ish till 7ish so that's approx 11 hours.
    Maybe it will just keep freezing and then stop by itself like it did last time when I bought it.

    Driver updated to 21/05/2010 too.
