Well, i messed up. I bricked a Dell XPS 630i. I'm not sure how, i downloaded the moded bios someone posted on here followed the directions and it said it flashed successfully but never was able to reboot. It rebooted but no loading screens nothing totally blank. Tried these recovery things but it seems like all these apply to laptops or somethings, well this is a desktop. Anyone have any ideas on how to get thsi thing working again and recover the bios, or do i have to shell out some bucks now to get a replacement motherboard on Ebay. Unforunately too this is not my computer. Any help would be totally appreciated. Thanks
You can use the recovery tool (CRISIS) to recover corrupted BIOS on desktop too. However, the process might be different. Some people reported that they doesn't need to press any key, just boot with CRISIS disk (floppy disk with USB floppy drive or USB flash drive) plugged in & it will boot from it automatically. Modern motherboard have BIOS recovery jumper to enable it to boot the CRISIS disk. Please check your computer manual (service manual) for more information.
Hello, two questions here: 1. If I flash modded BIOS unsuccessfully, am I still able to enter BIOS at POST? (or better invoke EasyBoot feature of AMI BIOS) ? 2. Is any chance to test if my modded BIOS will be working before flashing?
1. No - A failed Bios Flash by definition means it won't let you in through normal means. 2- YEs - well sort of. The modded Bios is checked with software used to mod it. But there is no guarantee until it is actually installed. Installing Modded Bios is not without risk. If you can't take the heat, use a Loader. They work well in most situations.
Well I already requested a moded BIOS which flashed and working well. But now I tried AMItool to make a mod on my own and I received quite different BIOS image, so want to try if it will perform as well or even better, because the requested BiosMod was made using SSV2 while AMItool offered SSV3 by default, and as I heard here SSV3 is better..
My take is to not try to fix things that are "working well" (as you put it. => If it ain't broke - don't fix it). But if you are set on improving it perhaps a Guru here can jump into it with you. Good Luck.
I agree with it. SSv3 isn't 'better'. It's another place where the SLIC is located. Every biosupdate is a sort of risk.... SSv2 method is different, it allows to remain the compressed size of the 1b module and is preferred at 'sensitive' bioses such as MSI. It also allows to vary the address, whereas SSv3 uses one static address everytime. (at least the current version of the tool) Both ways aren't used by official OEM bioses! That's the reason why they are equal. Regarding offsets of modules the SSv2 method can be safer at some cases. Anakunda enjoy your mod, don't think about ssv3.... ssv1 (super static version 1) : SLIC is located at a separate module. Module layout is changed at most (one new module introduced) ssv2 (super static version 2) : SLIC is somewhere at the biosimage, same module layout, same offsets. ssv3 (super static version 3) : SLIC is at 1b mainbiosmodule and will be mapped to low address range, offsets of modules are changed since the compressed size of the 1b module increases due to SLIC injection.
Actually I couldnot stand it and did flash, and most probably it's not worse nor better. Just assumed if AMItool by default offers SSV3 there must be a reason why it doesnot offer SSV2 since manual recommends to obey it's suggested method. Only did expose my Pc additional unnecessary risk and thank god it worked..
I've tried to change motherboard(foxconn 45CMX) boot logo..At the end ,bios got crashed... Then i tried some methods using floppy disk to recover bios. But nothing worked.. Can give me some opinion..?? It will be a great help.. ( please excuse me for my bad english..)
i brick my friend new laptop (fujitsu li3710) and i make a crisis recovery on usb pen drive but none of the key combination works i try fn+B and windows+b i try the same combination with esc and f and nothing works i have phoenix bios in this computer please help p.s. before several month ago i briked my brother laptop (lenovo n500) and my compaq cq61 but i recovered the bios with the combinaion windows+b on both laptops EDIT: i found a way to recover via floppy usb but my bios is 2MB what i can do??
You should think about WHAT could be better after and what is bad to be improved? Issues?? Nothing... In other words: Is there a real reason to flash it? This thoughts you should make before any (bios)update.
Help toshiba l500-19x Hi All Please help me I'm trying to follow the instractions, and I can boot with FN+B, and I can see its reading the floppy, but the BIOS file is over 2MB so I cant copy it to FDD, and USB Stick method does't work. What else can I do, please help. Laptop is Toshiba Satelite L500-19X, PSL0E-00F01DEN, and after bios update it won't even start.
Create the CRISIS disk using floppy disk with "Compress The Bin File" option selected. Hope it can fit all the files in the floppy disk.
hey all i need some help with a board i have that i flashed the bios to a newer version. i flashed the board using the correct file and the update was sucessfull. somehow, after i rebooted, it will no longer post. my board is a Foxconn WinFast 761GXK8MB-RS. i tried to create a bootable floppy for bios recovery with the correct batch file and a copy of the bios file but it didnt seem to work. what happens is i can power on the system and the fan spins but no beeps, post, video or keyboard control. the most that i got out of the system is it trying to access the floppy drive after maybe a good 10-20sec. i can hear it slightly but the LED on the floppy does not turn on. im not too comforatable doing a hot flash even though i have another board i can do it on and i dont have access to a bios programmer. any suggestions? id like to get this board up & running if possible.
Hello everybody, Sorry, but I'm new in that forum and I already made a post in "HARDWARE" section. I have dead ASUS notebook, model M60J, after BIOS update. Last four weeks I tried almost all possible technics ( it was in "the service" also, but the guys there told me that my motherboard is burned ) that I found in internet ( AMI Recovery procedures, usb-flash ... rename of bin file ... press and hold almost all combinations), but my baby is still dead, no ligths, no noise, no ventilator, like the song of Depeche mode - Enjoy the silence. Finaly I remove the flash chip - SST25VF032B and read it. Probably during the flash procedure, somehow the bootblock is damaged, probably because of that, the standard technics don't work. I upload the image here: rapidshare.com/files/407373961/original_0x000000_0x3FFFFF.bin Please guys, help me!
